EGR blanking or closing via ecu programming pro's n con's
EGR blanking or closing via ecu programming pro's n con's
Well as title suggests. Im tempted to get egr valve shut permanently via ecu. What are pro's and cons:
Obviously a pro is no more exhaust gas back into inlet manifold gunking everything up with carbon deposits etc.
Downside engine take longer to warm up etc. What do you guys think?

I am interested in this too, I would like to remove mine completely and fit a complete new section so I get full bore pipework. (£50 on eBay) but won't do it until I'm ready to remove the dpf as well so I can get it remapped for both together.

I did a check on our old 07 E91 325d with the egr connected and mapped out and there was not much difference on warm up times (used the laptop to log warm up times not the hidden menu).
The only thing I did notice was a very slight increase in engine noise at idle but I do mean slight, this is due to the extra oxygen content in the air making the diesel combustion slightly louder.

Regarding the warm up this is from an old post I did on BMWland, it was our E91 so same engine as an E70 3.0d.
To anyone that is interested I have just measured the warm up times with and without the EGR connected, both times cold engine start was around 16deg;-
EGR connected took 6.5 minutes to reach 87deg.
EGR dis-connected took 6.9 minutes to reach 87deg.
Both tests were done on the same route from our house but when I did the test with the EGR dis-connected I got held up at one set of lights, if I hadn't the times may have been identical, due to this result I have decided to get an EGR delete file for our car. I will post again if there are any changes to MPG.

Hi Martin. Nice one!! Im tempted too. Might do it ( it'l cost me nothing as Ive got all the Alientech kit ) so will get my tuner to do it for me.
I used an Alientech power gate on our old E91, problem was I couldn't get to the power gate before we traded it in to flash the car back to standard so that unit is still chassis locked to the E91.
Where did you get your kit from? and what tuner are you going to use?

I have a kess v2 system ( maps pretty much anything before 2009 via obd2 port. I use Zaviz for my files.

If it was me I would have a chat with Jason at BWchiptune.
He also uses Alientech for people that want to flash the software themselves.
He has invested in a Dyno Dynamics rolling road, he has a great reputation for doing BMW's and after I had a long chat with him I decided he will probably be the guy doing our software when I put our gutted DPF on.
I have had about 9 cars/vans mapped now so I know when someone is talking sense over the phone and not a load of bull like some do.

no, for something extremely simple like telling a valve to drive closed will stick with my friend JJ for that. He has done a high volume of files for me and always been highly reliable.
Sorry for some reason I thought you were doing a dpf delete as well and thats the only reason I recomended Jason as there has been so many storys of tuners doing the dpf deletes done badly.

Re: EGR blanking or closing via ecu programming pro's n con's
Hi there.
(I know this is an old thread).
Want to know if anyone on here has successfully completed the EGR delete/block/blanking and the ecu off coding for their e70 diesel. I see a few kits on ebay now for this. The e70 would also require the coding out to avoid any ecu error faults or even limp modes. So would need to source someone local to code this for me also (Brisbane, Australia).
Can I proceed with the mechanical blank kit and let the car run fine with the fault code until I get it coded off?
Any advice would be helpful...
