AFTER MARKET HEAD UNIT DVD/GPS/TV ETC UNIT - WHICH ONE????

Hi ALL
I've previously purchased a head unit DVD player etc etc off "that well known auction site" for around £350 - £400 for my E53 and it was complete and utter rubbish, to the point now I'm going to put a hammer through it, if I don't hurry up and take it out. It whistle's and looses signal as quick as you look at it. So now I want to purchase a reliable unit, can anyone suggest a head unit DVD/GPS/Phone etc etc unit?.

Why not use bmw original sat nav unit they on fleabay around £250

I know exactly which unit you must have purchased I know guy at work who made same mistake

I had a Pioneer AVIC-F980DAB fitted. It works perfectly every time.

Have the Dynavin N6 fitted now for about 3 years, think they are on the N7 now but has been excellent. Expensive but mine has been trouble free. Does every thing it says it will do, you can download the latest software on their site. I did this a couple of times, then didn’t like the additional "upgrades" reloaded the stuff I liked and stuck with that. TV and DAB have been excellent to.

Very interested in the thread. After owning the car a year I actually opened the glove box to find a unit that resets the mpg etc. So the useless head unit I have is third party.
I too have been looking at a replacement and would love to know what not to buy.

I had the Dynavin N7 fitted, I’ve sent it back, apparently the N6 owners all say it works fine on here which is why I went for the N7 when it came out. It basically doesn’t work if you have too much music on your iPod! I also couldn’t use Bluetooth streaming because the Dynavin thought my entire music collection was on my phone even though it only has one playlist on it.

I’m having this Alpine Halo 9 ( https://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/Sin ... /iLX-F903D) unit fitted next week, the screen will fit flush with the dash and not stick up in the air like they show on the ads, seems to be a new trend to have a screen stuck up in the air!

My car had premium sound with DSP and twin sub in the boot which made it a bit more difficult - hence the original decision to get the Dynavin as it integrates with DSP, such a shame it didn’t work. Alpine fitters are using crossovers and bypassing the DSP amp.

I have one of those fitted to mine and the sound is great but because they sold bugger all of them in Oz they haven't got an update for the maps.

Alpine unit is in, I guess it will be a bit Marmite but it’s a damn site better than that old hunk of junk the car came with, managed to sell my old BM54 amp for £150 to put towards it so that was a bonus!

The screen is 9”, it’s the iLX-F903D https://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/Sin ... /iLX-F903D I’m happy with the screen sitting out but I’m sure it’s not for everyone, I can angle it a bit more flush but wanted to avoid too much glare.
I had the Dynavin N7 originally because it sat there looking all stock and unobtrusive, it just didn’t work! Hoping barclaycard will retrieve my £600 in the next few weeks. Then I couldn’t decide on a double din and how to fit it in the massive hole in the dash, considered an iPad install and went full circle to this rather conspicuous Alpine unit, funny how things turn out!
