3.0d trouble starting
3.0d trouble starting
Had problems the past few days with the X5 not wanting to start first time in the mornings, turns over fine but just wont start. Need to turn it over a few times before it fires up, fitted a new battery yesterday as the old one was on the limit but the same thing happened this morning. It's fine the rest of the day after it has been started initially.
Whats your thought? Glow plugs? I've ordered glow plugs anyway and will be fitting them tomorrow but just wondered if it could be anything else. Can't get it booked into the indy until the middle of next week.

Re: 3.0d trouble starting
Glow plugs changed and it's still the same.
Had a diagnostic done and it's coming up with low fuel rail pressure or crank pressure low, can't remember what they said.
I know it's pointing to injectors but could it still be the pre fuel pump relay?

Re: 3.0d trouble starting
Just to add, the problem is only when the engine is cold always starts fine when warm.
Re: 3.0d trouble starting
Ours would not start at all this weekend and it turned out to be the fuel pump relay.
It's above and behind the glovebox and is the one nearest the engine. Part number: 61368373700
Item one in the diagram here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=61&fg=25
Might be a possible, but not swearing to it. The relay is about £10

Re: 3.0d trouble starting
hi
you need to do a leak off test on the injectors. a simple job to do and nothing expensive needed. sounds like you have a injector down

Thanks for the replies.
Guess what, car sat the whole day today and started first time but the outside temperature has now risen from -5c to +4c today. Battery was replaced last week and the glow plugs have been changed. Will be fitting a fuel pump relay tomorrow as the indy can't fit me in until Monday now. Hopefully the temperature will drop again after I have fitted the relay to see if the problems is still there.

Re: 3.0d trouble starting
I have same prob with my '05 .
Thought was battery as turning over really slowly , but that didn't make any difference .
In the cold weather it's only just starting if you leave it outside .
Had a test done and it showed up 3 glowplugs faulty , plus the pre-heat doesn't work .
I've booked it in , but they can't do it 'til Jan , hope it lasts 'til then coz driving back
to Blighty on 19th !!
