Hey there ...
I'm buying my mates '06 E53 3.0d sport at the end of this week ... I've currently got a '10 E93 M3 - but unfortunately it has had to go :'(
Looking some advice / thoughts for easy mod's ...
I'm planning on getting either the black plastic colour coded, or considering the 4.8i bodykit (although would probably cost more to paint and fit the cheaper ebay one than buying OEM).
I've ordered a few bits so far ... as the lights are a bit weak ... I have ordered some LED's (10W) for the halo's ... should i consider upgrading the other bulbs?
Ordered gloss black grilles (look great on my M3).
Ordered roof mounted DVD to keep the kids happy (Son is not impressed at all the M3 is going).
Anything else you can suggest that would make subtle difference and that is easy?
(oh and there's no sat-nav - not sure how good the stereo is on the X5 - M3 is ok-ish with the standard system, but plan on getting a new fancy headunit and if I can stretch, some decent speakers).
Cheers!

Howdy & looking for advice
Re: Howdy & looking for advice
Cosmetic or performance mods (or both ?)
Re-mapping the ECU is relatively inexpensive and (so I read) produces good results on the 3.0d engine, not only in large torque increase but also drivability - and small increase in mpg.
I sold my 911 Turbo and went to an X5 recently.....while I will admit it takes a lot of getting used to - the loss of all that outright performance - what I have found is that its such a different car to drive / own that it's soon forgotten....plus the Porsche just attracted all the wrong type of attention on the road which the X5 doesn't seem to attract. Not welcome esp with the kids in the car.
...and my 2 kids actually prefer it "because its more comfy and not as noisy"

i know what you mean about the wrong type of attention Ro.
(although the neighbours will be the ones glad to see it go due to the noise).
Was thinking of performance upgrades in time, but will stick with the cosmetic. I had a E90 335d Msport remapped before and that was a lot of fun (and ~4000 miles out of the rear tyres).
My list would be:
1. Black grilles.
2. Lighting upgrades.
3. Colour coding body.
4. Audio upgrades.
5. Performance

Roof mounted grill I think is a pain to install get headrests instead
I wired mine in around 1hour fitted a nice looking switch in centre rear console for power
Even my mechanic was impressed he thought I had it done by a company
Ebay sell sets for around £140
