what's the law for these (not the e70 the ambulance!)?

Post by jaynana » Wed Jan 29, 2014 1:15 pm

can somebody help me with the law pls - emergency vehicle, parked in a no-parking spot regularly, no emergency situation and no emergency ligts on..

parked every day on a no-parking area! i see this on the school run. traffic used to flow smoothly on 2 lanes until this started happening. since about a week (or more) back, this is parked here every blo0dy day! totally disrupting the traffic flow!

somebody gets in and drives it away around 8.40am!

surely there's no emergency or medical situation (not every morning till around 8.40am!!). somebody has to be doing it for convenience!

Depends what the single yellow line restriction is?  Normally ambulances are only exempt if engaged on actual operational duties.  It might also have a special exemption - and that needs a good reason.

That looks like a non-emergency ambulance (no blues & twos fitted) so it's more likely to be a hospital transport minibus.  If it's there all night and the yellow line restriction says it can then you're stuck.  But if not then a call to the local authority flagging the problem and giving times, registration, driver description, any patients being moved etc should result in an investigation and a ticket.  Photo evidence will help as long as the image has date & time on it too.

Any indication as to which Ambulance Service/Hospital Trust it belongs to?

damn that's not clear in the photo.

i believe the restriction is no parking until 9.30am and this is observed around 8.30am.

no idea about which service..

Any emergency vehicle can be given a ticket,  especially when the driver is using his or her exemption for a purpose that is not immediately clear... It needs a traffic warden to give it a ticket. Then, if it continues to park in the same place you will know it has legitimate business. If it moves then hurrah!! ;)

Its not an emergency ambulance, its a patient transfer vehicle. It probably has been retired by the NHS and has been bought at auction. Some people buy old black cabs so they can drive in the bus/ taxi lanes too

Where are the blue lights ? Wouldn't it have blue lights if it was a legit emergency vehicle ?

I cannot imagine that an emergency vehicle is exempt from traffic and parking laws when not in use for an actual emergency. This person is most likely going to find out very shortly that they shouldn't be taking advantage of driving an emergency vehicle and that they still need to set an example and follow the laws of the road. I am willing to bet that they park there out of convenience as you noted, but with pictures on their way to the local authorities I am willing to bet that they won't be parking there conveniently for long. They will most likely receive a reprimand from their boss, as well.

just to let you know the outcome of this..

off went a few photos with the VIN to the local authority, they promptly forwarded my email to the local parking enforcement dept, copying me. no further correspondence was received, the annoying vehicle was there the next day too, so i thought 'darn!!, what the hell..'.

but that was it, not after that day, it hasn't been parked there since!

hooray!

could be coincidence that the vehicle wasn't needed there anymore.. but wht the hell, job done!

Excellent.  Just had to do the same with a SORN'd and uninsured vehicle that had appeared in our road and was being used every day.  Took a couple of days but it's vanished again.
