Parking sensors
Re: Parking sensors
Anyone being playing with the bumpers? Is the beep front or rear?
Do a search for 'PDC' on here and see if any match. This has come up before and there are a number of options and fixes. It might be one is full of water and causing a fault, or a module fault, or water in the battery area. If the PDC light is flashing then that indicates a fault condition.
See if all the transducers are 'clicking' by putting your ear close to them when the PDC is active. If one (or more) are silent then that is most likely the faulty unit. They are in series so one going down affects all at that end of the car.

Re: Parking sensors
PDC light is solid
Not been playing with bumper just fitted rear headrests today
No water in battery area
I'm suspecting water as its been raining loads here
From what I recall all were clicking
Where is the reverse modules located? Only think I have done is remove the beeper from right rear panel to get access to wires and then connected it again

Re: Parking sensors
there should be light ticking from all working ones.
I had a failure but all were ticking..
Traced it down with INPA and identified 2 sensors gone.
You could try spraying the sensors front and rear (on car and on sensors ie face of sensor and connections on back) (if you can reach) with WD40 to remove any moisture.
failing that you will need to either get a diagnostic kit, or someone to do it for you.

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Re: Parking sensors
Hi kamb,
I picked my 2003 4.4i X5 up a few weeks ago and was getting the solid PDC bleep.
From checking all the sensors with the "ticking" test I found that 2 were not ticking (offside front corner and nearside rear corner - kinda opposite sensors)
I bought a couple of sensors off eBay and literally just fitted them (still got blood on my knuckles)
All now works fine and the PDC is working perfectly.
Not sure what model you have but pre-facelift the fronts pop out on a plastic support strip (easy) but the rears are more difficult - depending where they are. The middle 2 you can get to easy via the towbar opening / flap but the 2 on the corners are buggers and not helped by really only being able to get one arm / hand up inside to remove and replace it.
Anyway, did it and now all perfect.
If all are ticking then its not the sensors and as far as I know the PDC system is pretty basic in that there are sensors, a control unit and wiring, so its one of those !
One thing I noticed is that you need to get you ear right against the sensors to hear them ticking (cover your other ear helps) - so check them all really carefully.
Another thing if your ordering sensors is make sure you get the right ones. Everything I read said that the front corner ones were "L" shaped and turns out they are not, they are straight.
Luckily I ordered 2 straight ones and an "L" - so now I have a brand new, spare L shaped PDC sensor.....
Anyone want it ?
