Send to car on Google mapps

Post by Simond S » Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:16 am

Has this option now finished?, one of the redeeming features of both Google and BMW was the ability to send the postcode straight to the car.

Still exists but you need to use either a PC or the 'BMW Remote' App.  For some reason Apple stopped allowing it via safari.

You do need to have a current BMW Assist package though I think.

Indeed, and if you HAD a BMW assist account that had lapsed after 3 years then the webpage will still tell you its been sent but your car'll never receive it!

On what device?  You also need a google account as you have to log in.....and yes that is a pain, but you don't ever have to use the account for anything else.

I'm using a laptop with windows. Apparently (I spoke to BMW this morning) it is a change that Google have made and the send to car function has gone for now.
It does seem that the whole communications aspect of BMW's is seriously flawed. I appreciate that this was a google change but surely they had sla's in place to ensure that the product would remain live? I have given up trying to get emails and text messages in the car, something that worked out the box in my Touareg.

BMW have these new Guru's in dealerships who are meant to set up everything, but whilst they are really nice chaps have achieved the sum of zero.

It's still there.

I just opened google maps on my work pc and put in a start and end then hit "Get Directions"... which it then does.

I then click on the little icon for "link" (it's next to the "print" icon). This brings up another window which includes a hyperlink "Send".

Clicking on "Send" will launch another window with the option to Send to: Email or Car. Pressing "Car" takes you to the page where you put in your bmw account details etc (or these are pre-populated if you've signed into Google and done it before).

The key step is probably near the beginning:  "Get Directions", because if you don't actually request directions to a place then when you click on the "link" symbol you just get the Send to: Email option

So, in short, it's still there and it still works!

If you have the 'BMW Remote' app on your phone then you can send it from there too.  That's where I usually do it from.

That's interesting. For some reason your google maps page looks different to mine!

I'm using a pc running windows 7 and viewing via Microsoft Explorer 8. I'll try it at home tonight but it worked from home last time i used it too.

Your in the new google maps mess!!  The 'Send to Car' option is not available in the new system yet. Under the embed link Google have helpfully said it's not yet ready.

In the lower right corner of the map use the ? Button and choose 'Return to classic Google Maps'.  Choose a reason and return again.

It then works as we were used to.

Once in the original version then it's the link button and use 'Send' in the top of the box as we're all used to.

I hate user acceptance testing in the public >:(
