Add a reversing camera and upgrade the screen size?

Post by thedesignboy » Sun Mar 02, 2014 9:34 pm

I seen on ebay some camera kits ~£200 that you can add to your existing head unit? Any one here had any experience or suggest a way to go?

I also dislike the tiny screen - can that be swapped or is it a whole world of pain to do this?

Have you got navigation, or just the iDrive?

Its the 2007 idrive so guessing its not up to much tricks.

Would love to swap in a bigger screen as my last car makes this one tiny to use.

cheers!

The later CIC drive system will have a good go at breaking your bank to install.

It can be done, but it's far from simple.  It requires a new computer in the dash, modifying the dash, wiring loom, fibre links, coding etc.  There's no larger screen swap into the existing hardware that I have come across so far, though others here might know of an option.

There are a few places on the web that will do upgrades for certain BMWs, but whether the E70 is included I don't know.  Have a search for IDrive upgrades to see what is about out there.
