My First X5

Post by Neptunelevi » Sun Mar 02, 2014 11:20 am

Hi all,
Six weeks ago my wife and I became the proud owners of our first X5 (details below). We are both confirmed petrol heads and devout BMW fans since our first one, a fantastic '02 530d M Sport (E39 I think?). Since then we have strayed away and sampled some high spec Audis and Mercs, we have never made the emotional connection we did with that first Beemer. We have always admired the X5 and now we have two kids and a dog, somehow my wife persuaded me that the time was right and we "needed" a 7 seater. After much searching we found this one at Astle BMW Grimsby and we simply couldn't resist! It's a 2011 40d M Sport with 7 pages of extras listed below and we love it! Not loving the fuel economy though, you know it's not going to be frugal when you buy a vehicle like this but despite driving like Mother Theresa I can't get it above 27mpg! Our latest addition is shown below.

Extras included:
Media Pack
HUD
Side view cameras
Lane departure warning
High beam assist
7 seats
Panoramic sunroof
Adaptive headlights
Piano black interior and roof rails
Comfort access
Auxiliary heating
Seat heating front and rear
Tow bar with increased load capacity
Soft closing doors
A brand new set of 20" wheels
Powered boot
Inclusive servicing pack

The guy who bought it went mad on the extras and has part ex'd it against a new one and done the same! It has got high mileage at 69k but they are nearly all motorway miles (apparently!) and it is immaculate, we love it! Looking forward to contributing to the forums, we used this and others to help us choose and it was very informative, thanks!Image

Welcome aboard... :)

27mpg does sound about right unless you're on a motorway.  Then you should see low to mid 30's.

15% off on the official figure is about right........ :(

Hi and welcome and I love the spec of your car what a result.

Re fuel consumption it may be worth considering a remap, possibly after car is out of warranty as several others have had it done and it's improved the consumption amazingly let alone the power side which brings  a big smile.

If you have a look at the performance sections you will find some posts on this subject
