Hi all.
Ok so I've been asked by a friend of mine to test a set of suspension for the X5. If I like it then my plan is to sell the KW's I already have fitted.
The KW's have been on my X since November/December 2012 and are still under KW's 2 year warranty.
I paid £1400 for this kit and it really is one of the best kits out there. This is an ideal replacement for your standard setup OR to replace the problematic air suspension.
I'm going to be looking at £950 for this which is a great saving over a brand new kit (as still covered by warranty too).
Cheers,
Raj.

KW V3 Coilovers
Re: KW V3 Coilovers
Hi Raj ,
Is my 3.0d likely to have Air Suspension ?
Also , how long does standard suspension last before it starts to 'deteriorate' ??
Just running thru ideas

Re: KW V3 Coilovers
If you have a 'Sport' with self levelling suspension you will have air bags at the rear. If you have a height adjustment control up front then you have full air susp. If you have a 'compressor done' under the spare wheel then that's a good indicator as are red and blue plastic pipes on the boot floor.
Bags can go at any time, but now the earliest models are 15 years old, it will become increasingly likely that you will get a failure somewhere. Some seem to go on for ever, but others go early and usually there is no obvious reason as to why.

Re: KW V3 Coilovers
Mine's not a Sport , they weren't available as such in Lux , you had to option it 'like' a Sport .
Nor do I see anything like a compressor or red/blue pipes anywhere in the back .
My question was more relating to how/when dampers shud be changed on X5's , as on other
vehicles people tend to suggest between 100-120,000 kms over here , and it's not something
I remember reading a thread about on here , someone changing their 'worn' dampers .
Cheers , Chris

Re: KW V3 Coilovers
I was under the impression that all except the 3l petrol came with rear air suspension unless otherwise specified but that was an assumption.
The compressor sits in the dome under the spare wheel and you'll know if air as if you look through the rear arches you can see either springs or airbags.
As for wearing shocks, hmmmm, it's always a difficult one tbh. I really don't think you can put a mileage on how long a set should last as ever vehicle undergoes a very different life to each other.
What mileage is on yours Chris?
Always happy to do a deal for a friend

Re: KW V3 Coilovers
Hmmmm better get underneath to check it out tonight , I didn't think mine had it .
I've just gone over 200,000 kms (@ 125k miles) .
If I'm going to have to replace stuff soon makes more sense to go upgraded , especially as it
handles a bit like a boat at mom (compared to the B8
) )
I'll be round at Easter Raj

Base model diesel (the one with 17" wheels) didn't either but could be specced unless you had a towbar in which case it was mandatory. My 2004 'Sport' (a UK trim level by the sound of it) had it but I also had a towbar. I think most UK cars were 'Sport' type as I have seen very few with the small wheels one, and there wasn't much price difference.

If you are planning to go down this route let me know in advance as I've told my friend I'll go through all the hassle etc if I have someone to buy the KW's as it's a lot of work and hassle just to try it and then revert back lol.
But if you do want it then I'll happily fit it for ya too (with your help) lol
