Gear selector fault advice ?

Post by J8NWK » Fri Feb 21, 2014 6:25 pm

Evening guys. Just trying to see of this is anything anyone's had before.

Car is in park, go to reverse then drive, all ok, neutral then drive, all ok, park then drive with the reverse lockout button pressed, all ok, BUT go from park to drive just by tapping the selector back and it pings a fault onto the dash, saying gear selector fault, it doesn't stay, it goes out and the car drives perfectly. Code reader gave this fault

A834 - interlock one touch control rear faulty

As said the car drives perfectly in all gears and you can get around the problem by just pressing the button on the side when clicking it from P to D.

Anyone experienced this before ?

Thanks, Jon

Nope.  Seen lots of rude messages if I forget to either press the brake or release button.. :-[

It's an odd one, this is the first E70 I've had so this May be a daft question, are you supposed to have to press the button on the side to take it out of park or is it just to engage reverse (how the cars working now)

Thanks

That's interesting, on mine I only have to press it to get into reverse ? I can get into drive by just pressing the brake and tapping the stalk back.

The mystery continues

6 speed.

Done some research and I'm 99% sure it should be locked in the P position until both the brake and lock switch are pressed so I'm suspecting either a switch fault or a stuck lock actuator in the gear selector unit itself.

Never had this problem in my '77 mgb !

Any news on this?
Mine does the same, it says gear lever selector fault when you put it straight into drive.
I can also just pull the lever straight down with just my foot on the brake, no need to press the lock button, I only need that to go into reverse.
I assumed that was normal?
