Remap?

Post by Raward » Sat Feb 01, 2014 12:22 pm

Hi
I could either take my '53 plate E53 to a remap specialist for £300 or I could buy and fit the gizmo for £150.
Is there a major difference?

Based on what our Jason says, a plug in device is a generic remap and may not get the best out of the engine.  A specialist remap should be developed to give you exactly what you need - power, economy, overall performance etc - and want from your specific car.  They are tailored to your engine and not a 'best guess' which plug in chips seem to be.

Have a search on here for remaps and you will see what other members have found.....

Just to follow this up (and for anyone near Bristol) I had my X5 remapped yesterday by Mark. He has all the kit and in fact diagnosed a fault with my pre-supply pump before I could proceed so I had that replaced on monday.  Well informed and explains everything.
Now pulling 370Nm of torque in stead of 280Nm after a bespoke/customised remap.
Took about 90mins and cost £250.
Would recommend.

Must a 3.0i?  All the diesels are way above that figure.....around 400-500Nm out the box depending upon engine.

Mines 2003 X5 E53 3.0d 184bhp basic and around 270bhp remapped now.....but I went for a mix with improved fuel economy.
Should it be a lot more?
Thanks

410Nm is the standard for the 184bhp unit.  500Nm for the facelift 218bhp unit.

Either you got given wrong data, or something is wrong engine/gearbox wise - could just be wear.  280Nm as a starting figure is a long way off what it should be.

My re-map is also a 'midway' choice . I didn't see any point in a 'pure power' map on a 4x4 , especially a Diesel , much better to get improved torque to get better fuel economy .

If you are really only getting 270 NM then there is smthg wrong somewhere for sure .

270bhp from 184bhp????... that seems alot, I thought most remaps would take it from 184bhp to around the 230bhp mark, are you sure 86bhp gain is right?

Yes I wondered about that too , it seems a big increase , because if I remember correctly the engines are
quite different between original and Facelift models .

But it could answer why there's no torque . I remember reading about a race M1 that revved to 12-13,000 RPM had ridiculous BHP figure (for that engine) but there was sod all torque !!

I'm pretty sure it was 270bhp and 370 Nm torque remapped now.
I'm happy with it and he showed me the diagnostics gizmo showing that everything was running perfectly.
Thanks for your posts.

Remap?

Post by jason@bwchiptune » Mon Feb 24, 2014 9:22 pm

The 184bhp 3.0d will not go to 270bhp using standard injectors

After 225-230bhp these engines will smoke the roads out because of the standard injector nozzles fitted to them

218bhp 3.0d will go to 260-270bhp

Did you get it dyno tested?

No smoke just loads more power and throttle response. Very pleased. No error codes.
Standard injectors.
Maybe you need to speak to Mark
