No service book in F15 pack

Post by m13lky » Tue Feb 18, 2014 9:47 pm

I was going through the book pack from the new car & there is no service book in there, I emailed my supplying dealer who tells me that BMW no longer supply them, all servicing is now logged electronically by BMW, I would still rather have a physical book but I will email BMW UK to see what their answer is, another ploy to stop people taking the cars out of the dealerships for service work, I would always use a main dealer but it is the customers choice at the end of the day if they want to use another garage or specialist, maybe some of the other F15 owners can let me know what they have in their packs or what they have been told by dealers?

Thats bad............

I can really see some dealerships confirming service history for you for free when you go to check a cars service history........NOT

Keep all the rcts, thats the only proof. And if the dealer says " yes sir its had 6 services including brake fluid and coolant" you buy it and then they say " no this car has no service history ". Sory I don't know who told you it had a full history .........You have no come back.

That said I have seen so many cars with no service history or allegedly lost service books. The car has had so little servicing that they bin the service book and then they can lie and say , " yest its been serviced but we have lost the book ". If the book was there they couldnt lie. Also a service book with stamps is worthless imho. I want to see the service book stamped up and all the corresponding rcts. If I cant see that then I walk away or price the car as NO service history.

And what happens after the car is 3 years old and you take it to an Indie for servicing ?

Keep the rcts I guess.

Think its short sighted.

Regards,

Nat.

My old merc used to be like this and I didn't like it.  every time it went in for a service I asked for a printout of the service history so it had yearly updates.  it just means extra checks for someone buying the car off you.  I know mine will be traded into a dealership somewhere is a year or 2's time so not really bothered.

I'm guessing mine will be the same. I got the service pack thrown in as part of the purchase (and I can prove that in the invoice, so I suppose I could show it to a prospective purchaser and say "so why wouldn't I have got it serviced?"

But still, it's not ideal if I don't end up trading it in to a BMW dealer in 3 years time.

With my last X5, despite a service book, I kept the invoice from the dealer when I got the car serviced - not as big a deal as you'd think as it only needed serviced once in 4 years! I've always done this with my cars even though (so far) I've never needed them.

I will be interested to see how this affects resale in say 6 or so years time. For many buying used it will be a minefield and lots of hassle to check histories, (especially for those whose verification of history consists casual glance in a service book) . It may make folk do a bit more legwork to verify dealer visits and may  address the issue of fabricated service books..........Fraudsters are usually not far behind though & I am sure some may be tempted to generate fabricated printouts or similar - depending on what becomes the norm in terms of expected verifying paperwork.......if any.

Then we have to factor in continuity in history for vehicles that eventually find themselves serviced at independents. Maybe we will see cars sold with sellers offering a phone number for BMW to verify servicing plus and/or maybe a handful of paper from an indy.

It will be interesting to see indy response and tactics re this - especially once cars old enough to be outside of warranty.

Not suggesting BMW have agenda to keep customers money away from independents.

Messy old business me thinks :noexpression:

Was talking to the Service folks this morning and asked about this.  Apparently the new iDrive will record the servicing information - though not parts & prices etc.  The Dealer said they would provide a hard copy of the computer records when required.

BMW are planning to fully computerise their servicing system so the Dealer records details in the car itself.  Of course this doesn't help when you stop using a main dealer so I guess you just have to do what most of us do now - keep paper records/receipts.

After I took delivery, I looked for the service book and sent an email to the dealer saying:

"One thing - I can't find the service booklet - do you still have it?  I had expected it to be in the wallet in the glove box but its not there.  If you have it, please can you pop it in the post"

I got the answer:

"In relation to the service book new vehicles no longer have them all the service records are now kept electronically"

I too like the hard copy service book.  I use it to check what was done when.  I also keep all my old receipts.  I had a nostalgic evening reading all the receipts for the 10 years I owned the E53 - sad I know, but it was interesting to see the gaps between services etc and the bigger spends.

When I PX'd the car, the dealer had no interest in the receipts, so they will no doubt end up in the bin.

I have had the same.  When my E53 was traded they weren't interested in any of that.  First time I had come across it as previous makes had always taken the copies - but perhaps they just binned them too.
