How do you know what 3.0 engine your buying on the 07 x5's?
Trying to find the right car is tricky... How do you know what 3.0 engine your buying on the 07 x5's? I read 3.0 but no one bothers to say which of the 3 engines they are. Its a bit of a guessing game, how do you old hands get at this?

BHP (assuming it's quoted) might give you a clue too.
30d should be around 235bhp PS
30sd should be around 286bhp PS
SE & MSport were just trim levels weren't they?

I've been looking at an early E70 too and have found the easiest way to tell the tax band (without having to ring the seller etc) is to enter the reg plate number on the DVLA website It's the 57 reg cars that seem to fall into both camps...07 plates are all more expensive to tax!

yes seen that, I've my eye on a few in belfast here, but they all seem to be saying things like this:
BMW X5 3.0d SE 5dr Auto [7 Seat] FULL BMW SERVICE HISTORY, 2007 (07 reg)
means nothing, the odd time you see the BHP listed but the usedcars ni webiste and utvdrive sites here in NI suck a bit, autotraders the best but not as good examples on there.
Good to know to look for the tax...

i know the diffenence but what do the logbooks say, as anyone could stick a 35d badge on and add a few £££s to the price of a 30d

Mine just says engine size not trim. I know new style log books are coming out so it may change.

[/quote]They went into the lower tax band on a build date of around sep/oct 07 and later.
But check the co2 on the log book as there have been some 08's with the higher tax rates as they were early builds and stood at the dealers for a while before they were registered.
