Depends upon which kit was fitted.  My 2004 had a Siemens handset made for the car.  It would not accept any other handset even with Bluetooth.  I had a separate SIM card holder as it was the 'pro system' at the bottom of
this page in Realoem.

Have you got a picture of the phone holder?  If you have Bluetooth then it may just be a snap in adapter and it can be replaced with a different one, or ignored as it provides charging and connects to the external aerial.

I'll try take some currently car locked in secure compound until I get DVLA paperwork for plate exchange

That why hoping to get minor things done on car before it's on road like

Oil breather change
Led interior light upgrade
Glow plug changed
Full valet
Dice installed

Mine was an 'Everest' which was I'm told made by Siemens.  Part number:  84116953468

They are well over £300 for replacements and it was made for BMW so tricky to find except new if that turns out to be the one.  :o

I cut the phone stuff out of my centre console.  I now have a small red error LED permanently lit on the head unit.  Doesn't bother me, but just to make you aware.

If this can be cancelled by the scanner anyone, please let me know.

Cheers
