A STROKE OF LUCK ! AUX HEATER remote from USA ,Installed !

Post by Colin » Thu Jan 23, 2014 7:53 pm

After all the talk about the aux heater I had nearly given up on ever getting my heater going , A STROKE OF LUCK , i was at a vintage tractor meeting ( for charity ) got talking to an old school chum  who is a mechanic and has his own fancy workshop , and he has an E53d and he got his aux heater going by remote with a kit he got from USA , he then said those magical words ( Ill get you one and fit it if you want ) so i gave him my number  and last night he text me saying the kit is on its way , £195 for kit £50 to fit , i cant wait !!!      will keep updated as and when i get it .. Make sure he's got either a 435 or 868 MHz unit.  If it is another band then you may have problems in the UK due to the original 413MHz band being assigned to other higher powered radio services which could stop it working.

US frequency allocations don't match the UK hence the potential for other radio services knocking your remote out.

In the EU we migrated the old 413MHz car fobs years ago because of problems with then planned (now operating) services in the UHF band.

I used to work for the UK Government for the Agency responsible for radio frequency planning and enforcement.  Did it for 24 years so radio engineering is summat I understand - well a bit anyway  :))

You should have no issues, and with the radio signal power levels being very low no one else should have any issues either.  Unless you have a mast on your doorstep, I would not be overly concerned, but it's worth asking.

Any maplins rf remote ( £35 circa ) will operate webasto on an e53 tapping in to pins 1 and 7 if memory serves me correctly.  Did it on e53 x5 years ago.

Hi Danny , the aux vent will never be a heater it only blows air around the cabin  say on a hot day,  its got no connection to the webasto, you need either a remote or the X came with aux heating on the obc screen . Colin ..
