TV Ariel

Hi I have a 2004 (53) 4.4 x5 and it has the tv installed but I'm only getting the black and white fuzzy screen and the black av screen how can I tell if there is an Ariel or if it even has one thanks

What was the actual build month as shown on the plate under the bonnet?

If before October 2004 then you will have an analogue only TV receiver which no longer works.  Week 40 (began in early October) 04 onwards should have hybrid digital/analogue units which should still work.

A '53 plate suggests an analogue only unit.  You can source hybrid units on the web, but make sure they (a) actually work, and (b) are for UK channels.  BMW will also sell you a new unit (plug & play) but at silly money.

Have you tried a retune in a good signal area just in case?

If I wasn't too bothered about the tv what route could I go if I just wanted an updated version for the cd DVD and sat nav thanks

That's a different unit.  You need a Mk 4 computer. Have a look on line for Mk4 nav computers for most of the BMW range.  I think it's a straight swap as the firmware for that is on a CD which you load into the computer in the boot.

Yes the Mk4 is a straight plug and play, did it to mine.
