Puddles!

Post by Buzznuts » Wed Feb 12, 2014 6:46 pm

We'll with all this  water we are getting at the mo and only recently buying an e53 variant, I have noticed that the x5 when driving through deep puddles does seem to scoop the water up and on to the windscreen. Does any one else experience this, And do other variants suffer from it?
Any possible fixes?

the E70 does this too (when hitting standing water at reasonable speed) - autowipers come in very useful!
Current: 2012 X5 MSport 3.0d - carbon black, 3rd row, panoramic, media, TV, top-view camera, power boot.
Former: 2006 520d SE (E60) - auto, black leather

X6 does it too.  It's partly to do with all the wheel arch liners and underbody shields that allow spray to be thrown in all sorts of directions.

Most vehicles actually to this these days.  Even my 1970's Vauxhell Cavalier did it.

Don't try driving through water that's too deep - about 8" is the limit on these beasts.  It can get splashed up in the engine bay and create havoc.  The air intake in the diesels is immediately above the radiator covers.

I think my small rubber bit that hangs down below the front bumper is hanging off due to the amount of standing water on the roads at the moment.  Not sure what use it is/was??

I wouldn't bother - that hanging rubber bit is designed to be disposed after use  :P

It was slightly tongue in cheek because of the sensitivity of these cars to anything and everything.....

It as you say, 17" for the X6 and 20" for the X5.
