Can facelift sport bumpers be fitted to a non facelift se?

Post by stu21t » Sat Feb 08, 2014 2:01 pm

As above.
I've just bought an 07 SE and would like to fit facelift Msport bumpers.  (Front and rear)
Are they a straight swap?
Do I need anything else or just the bare bumper skin? (Fogs? Grilles?)

Are there any other differences between the 2 cars?
Are the arches the same or are Msports wider?

Cheers.

You should be able to fit a pre-facelift sport bumper (and wheel arches) but you won't be able to fut a facelift front bumper without changing the wings too.

Ok so do I need anything else ?
Or is it just wings and bumpers?
Will the fogs still fit? And will they relocate ok?
Are the headlights the same?

Cheers

Do you mean I can't fit an 07 Msport bumper? Or I can't fit a facelift one?

Sounds like I'm just going to have to paint the grey plastic body colour and that's it.

What's the difference in a pre facelift se and Msport bumper?
Is the Msport just fully painted? Therefore I can get mine painted and it's done?

Cheers

I would think the msport bumper from the same year or car will fit.  Cant see bmw fitting different back quarter panels to sports. What about the aero kit?

it looks like a lot of hassle.
for the facelift its front wings, mounts, bumpers, trims...... and even then i dont know if they are a direct bolt on replacement, does anyone know if the wings are a direct swap? and arch liners?
i know bumper mounts are different.
ive found a pair of wings and bumpers at a decent price but i would like to find a car locally thats being broken to look at and also get the brackets, bolts.... but havent seen any locally.

the rear bumper is the same for all the years so thats doable

an 07 Msport is easy, so i might do that
the front looks like a straight swap but looks very similar

the rear does need a rear 1/4 but it looks like a clip on plastic panel so easy to swap but means buying more than just a bumper.

i will wait until i actually have my car until i start messing about with it lol.
1 bonus is i already have the wide arches.

I'm not sure if BMW are still playing silly buggers, but only a few years back they refused to sell anyone trim upgrades as it wasn't part of the original 'as built' spec.

After we had the 3-series MSport front bumper assembly stolen off the car, the insurers told us this was one of the reasons that at that time so many were being stolen.  It wasn't the cost, it was that if you had a standard trim and wanted an MSport trim, BMW simply refused to supply it.

Let's hope there is a more pragmatic approach nowadays - and we're only talking 5 years ago.

Here ya go

just looked and as i thought they don't have a sport and a non sport production line i.e making two cars with different panels, if you look the bumpers are different but also in 3 pieces and its the piece labelled as 'lateral part left' and right that are the different piece and will need to be fitted along with the bumper, but if you look where that meets the rear quarter on the car that and se are the same

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=17

also some of the rear of the bumper 'the carrier could be different if a bare skin is bought, however that is the same on other bmw models.

oh and bmw will sell e46/e60 sport kits so dont really see why they wont do e70, they do still have a problem with selling m/4.8is parts with out giving them a vin but if you go on american ebay the vins are on the listing so just get one of there

If OP is selling his front bumper for the standard one, i might need it after the gf reversed into mine this morning, cracking the lower bumper, grille, and N/S fascia.

Annoyingly, it was all colour coded, and ebay just seems to be full of the  grey plastic ones or the LCI bumpers.
