hello,
I am just new on this forum and I hope you guys can help me. I am from Belgium so my englisch is not the best.
I am riding an X5 e51 3.0d from 2005. A year ago I had an accident where a car hit me on de left front wheel. I had it fixed and did not had any problems untill a few months ago. When I turn left and at the same time accelerate I hear a loud screaping sound. Also there is a loud knocking sound when going over bumps, specially when the car is 'squatting' on his suspension.
I have (and the garage) checked everything and there is no problem with any of the joints.
I have allready changed the antirollbars, the strut bearing. There is no clearance on the wheel bearing, the brakes are still new.
We don't know what to do. The noise is getting louder and more often.
Hope you guys have an Idea
Thanks.

scaling and knocking sound
Re: scaling and knocking sound

Where is the noise appearing to come from? How bad was the damage and what was replaced/repaired?
Some things to check.....in no particular order.....
1. Any unusual tyre wear?
2. Does the car drift off line at all?
3. With the steering set straight. If you measure the wheel centres front wheel to rear wheel on BOTH sides, are they the same distance apart?
4. Any damage to the suspension top mount?
5. Have you had a full wheel alignment check done?
6. Looking from the front, are the two axle sets lined up evenly on both sides?
7. On full steering lock, does the front inner wing plastic liner hit the tyres at all?
8. No stones or other debris caught behind the brake disc and its guard?
9. Any signs of unrepaired, or badly repaired damage to the inner wings or chassis underneath?
There are probably other suggestions which will come to others. Start with the simple (and cheap) items and work up from there......

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)
