They will last only so long before you have to replace them too. If you can afford it get them done properly with BMW CV gaiters - better thickness on the rubber (ooo er missus).

Oh and make sure they still have a load of grease in em, otherwise that's a new driveshaft...

Lock full left or right in a car park and give a poke - should hopefully hear no clunking noise.

i did 40k miles on 1 that was a standard one i split with a knife and glued back together with super glue, it was also £3 delivered off ebay so i disagree, also i would just change the full shaft if i was going to risk removing the hub assembly from the shaft there only £25 brand new

I went down this route and had nothing but problems with em. Gone through 2 sets (under warranty BUT still have to keep paying the labour) and still got problems. One of them even popped out the diff….not good. So getting OE recon ones now.

When they found out my X was lowered, there suggestion was to pay them another £80 per side to have lengthened ones made as that is apparently the issue……I have never heard such rubbish.

Just my 2p worth of course.

To be honest unless there is damage to the cv joint (caused by dirt getting in via the split boot and causing wear and ultimately a noise) I personally would not change a genuine shaft/joint for a cheap pattern part.

I have changed many cv boots on these and have only had to replace one shaft due to the joint knocking and that had been running with a split boot for ages looking at the state of it.

Each to their own I know but that's just my opinion

Good luck whatever you decide.
