Webasto fan running on any command input - FIXED!

Post by smg916 » Mon Jan 27, 2014 6:44 pm

Hi, I just wanted to say that I've had this issue since owning my car; the Webo never operated (as in heated up), but the fan would run for around 30sec each time the car was locked, unlocked, door opened etc. after lots of reading of the posts on here and testing myself, I decided that the PCB was the most likely culprit. Further reading revealed a recent breakthrough, when board member (Stevejspm) fixed his own PCB, so I contacted him and he kindly agreed to have a look at mine.... Basically he found the faults, replaced the components and returned me a fully working PCB for a very fair fee. I just wanted to say what a fantastic resource this forum offers and thanks to Stevejspm for his help!

Thanks Sanj & thanks Smg916 for the cracking feedback!

If anyone thinks their Webo PCB is at fault give me a shout & I'd be happy to take a look. :-)

Hi there. I have been having problems with my webasto on my 3ld 04 plate.
I bought the car 3 weeks ago with the heater fuse removed.
when I replaced the fuse the heater fan started up straight away. It also started upon unlocking the car opening the doors etc. easy fix. replaced the unit with a second hand unit. now the heater starts up whilst using the timer or applying 12v to pin 1. but stops after a few mins  the pump is circulating the water etc but it is as if the heater has got to hot or the water is up to temp.  :'(dunno anymore.
I think iv probably got a problem with the first board but do you think iv dropped unlucky and got 2 faulty boards.
thanks in advance :bangin:

Hi, the first unit I'm pretty certain has a duff board, the symptoms are the same as the previous 3 units I've repaired. Is the second unit actually firing up? Ie can you feel heat coming from the little exhaust under the car beneath the passenger footwell? If no heat then it could be the glow plug.

Try firing it up again & let me know your findings.

If you force +12v on the green/white wire for over 3 minutes then it should run through its startup cycle & run on full speed irrespective of external temp or water temp.

Hi there. thanks for the reply.
when I first fitted the second unit I supplyed 12v to pin 1 and she fired straight up. hot smoke, water pipes getting hot from unit water pump running, fuel pump running etc. But after about 3-4 mins the unit shuts down then about a min later the fan in the unit kicks back in to cool it down. it will not start up again until the water in the system has cooled down.
this is the same case when using the timer to start the heater. starts right up etc then stopps after a few mins.

once the unit has been started it will not start even with 12v to pin 1 until the system has cooled
