remote control

Post by bluejeans » Sun Jan 26, 2014 4:59 pm

Hi all, just a quick question does my key remote have a battery, because sometimes the doors will open and other times they won't, someone told me that they charge themselves when the vehicle is running, the vehicle is an 03 e53 Cheers

Yes it has a battery, and yes it charges inductively when in the ignition.

How many keys do you have, do you notice only one of them failing? Needs a long run (45 mins) to get the charge up. Swap keys regularly if you're the only one driving the car.

If the above doesn't solve the problem then it is just possible you need a battery change.  The upside is that I can be done, but the downside is that it needs some care are as the batteries are not designed to be replaced.

BMW would very much appreciate you buying new keys from them @ £140 or so each instead. >:(

If you have a steady hand and fine cutting tools, or know someone with them then it is a DIY.  I think there's a 'How To' on here somewhere in the E53 forums.
