Battery drain - what's all this in my boot!?

Post by samcoombes » Thu Jan 09, 2014 8:41 pm

Hey,

So I've been struggling lately with battery drain. New battery installed, but still dead every morning.

I've started looking into electrics and found this awful lot in the boot by the battery.

My question; what are the two black boxes? How can I reinstate this back to oem?

I have the original nav HU and a retrofit Parrot Kit.

Thanks

The one with tape on could be some form of tracking device & backup battery going from the CE approval ref.  Any names on anything that might help?  If it is a battery and connected to the other box, then that might be the tracker itself.  Could be one of the early ones which were quite bulky - like the early 'Tracker' designs.

The finned black box appears to have at least one aerial connection, possibly two, one might be GPS and the other might be to the ping transmitter aerial?

That CE number has shown up elsewhere on the web and the responses appear to point toward a 6V backup battery for a tracking device.....

Hi Richard

Thanks for that - apparently the vehicle does have a tracker so that would make sense.

The finned box i think is the amp? It seems to be all audio.

The one with the 'Product Ref 401' sticker on regarding the nav / trunk road? That has no part number on it. Doesnt 'look' oem?

Just trying to get to the bottom of what is causing my battery to drain overnight!

Cheers

I also have the silver box (with tape) and the small twisted pairs on it..
Never found out what it does (or doesn't)

Finned box definitely not OEM amp/tuner then.  Perhaps the original one failed so that was fitted instead of getting the BM54 fixed.  If the original wiring is in place then it should be fairly easy to revert it back to OEM.

That whole loom looks like an after market head unit was fitted at some point.
Poss a nav kit or equiv similar to the Hauligan / Andrive units perhaps??

Without looking further couldn't tell.  Also not sure what the wiring is like for those head units.
Many on here have changed the head units and may be able to offer their thoughts..
