Interesting..............

So having watched it, my initial thought is.

If you happen to be unfortunate enough to get done by one of these gangs and buy a stolen car........just like the bloke on the film did........

He paid £13 K for the Land Rover which was stolen.
He reported it to the police who confirmed it was stolen and they took it away.
Then the insurance company who owned the car said he could have it back if he paid £13 K. ( + a load of hastle and no car for god knows how long )
So the insurance company got their money back and quite frankly no one else gives a fk................

If It was me , and I was unfortunate enough to be done that way, if I suspected my car was stolen I would be very tempted to keep my mouth firmly shut. After all he did 2 hpi checks. Other than being stolen there was nothing wrong with the car and he was very happy with it.
The call is say nothing and drive around and hope it never gets spotted as a ringer and chances are it wont, or report it  and loose £13 K or in his case £26 k......but as long as the insurance company is not out of pocket thats ok.

What do the scum get if they get caught ?

Mockery...........the law in this country is a joke.

Just my thoughts..........................

Yeh - or better still just sell it off!

Risk a bit on the depreciation, far better than reporting and risking the whole pot!

Does a HPI check not give you some comeback to claim the money back?

The car was an old model so I assume that on the next MOT they would have picked it up anyway? Or am I expecting that simple check to be too much ...

Depends upon who did the check and the 'level' of check done.  There are freebie and paid checks.  I guess the paid ones get a guarantee but not the freebies?

MOT only does a visual check for the VIN, not it's accuracy.  Would seem to be an obvious check now it's all electronic.... ;)

Bigger issue than that is the other that Was shown - select a car they like, nick it, take it out of the country!

I think a majority of high value cars must be ending up outside the country!

Its an all too familiar story my way.

Mate bought an X5 from a dealer, took delivery , 2 days later house got done, only thing taken was the X5.

Turned up in mombasa some 6 months later, but of course its way too late by then.

Bottom line is if they really want to they can catch these fkrs.................its not rocket science.

Also stating minimum sentence of 20 years inside and all you get is a cell..................your family have to provide you with clothes /food/cash to survive and you will do hard labour for those 20 years would be a good deterrent.
No downside..........go steal a 50-100 K car and if you get caught, you get a slap on the wrist................and mostly they dont get caught.

Its time we had some proper deterrents to all the crimes in this country, not fkg namby pamby mary whitehouse do gooders.

All this makes my blood boil.

It's wrong to knowingly keep a stolen vehicle & if cloned it would likely come to light due to conflicting data.

Some argue that U.K. sentencing is often inadequate to deter &/or prevent repeat offending.

Meantime it is sensible to be vigilant when buying /owning high value vehicles, (consider the place of sale venue, the seller, paperwork, VIN numbers, V5 etc when buying & use anti-hijack locks in ownership).
