Hi everyone
I don't post much but am on most days reading through, I have a 3litre diesel sport e53 non facelift
My first problem is that my auto level headlights are not raising at all? Are there some fuses to check? Lights all work side lights, main and full beam just will not rise.... Maybe a minor problem to the second..... Rattle when idling more so from cold also it appears to be lower in the revs on idle than normal.... Not sure if this has any relevance but a day or so ago could smell strong diesel no leaks under car when was left and can't say I have noticed it since.
This car has had so much work since I bought it 2 years ago I'm starting to give up now mostly under warranty but had gearbox rebuild, rear subframe bushes, air compressor, various suspension arms, top suspension mounts, air con motor,to name a few 2 weeks ago starter motor and now this
It has 100 000 when I got it and 121000 now
Any help would be appreciated
Mark

2 problems! Happy new year to me
Re: 2 problems! Happy new year to me
Height suspension sensor on rear axle perhaps?
Idle/smell could be a hose leak in the engine air system. Might be a loss of vacuum if something has come off/split?

Hi Richard
Thanks for reply I was thinking more along the lines of timing chain or tensioner I'm not mechanic and not sure what to look for but will take a look in the light of day

Lets be honest it's very rarely the 1 st or the cheapest option but let's keep an open mind eh!

take it to an indy, people spend literally 1000s guessing problems when a good indy can usually diagnose pretty quick

Well I checked all light related fuses and can't find any motor or control box to raise the lights
I'm stumped!

Light not self adjusting...................
I dont have an E53 any more so cant look. However on my E39 the light level sensor is clipped on to one of the drop links on my o/s suspension. I suspect the E53 would be the same. Its defo on the front axle.

Looks to be about £50.
Worth a look, may have come unplugged or be full of water/shit. Always worth a clean up and a squirt of WD40 first.
Regards,
Nat.
