Cheers guys
It's not exactly a big piece either....how many tins of primer/silver/clear do you reckon it would take?
If I have enough I might do the gear knob and perhaps the odd other bit
1 can of white plastic primer 2 cans of silver (1 should cover but to be sure you have enough) and 1 clear lacquer
That is superb work. Liking how its come along for sure.
As for wheels, unsure how you will not notice the difference on 22's as I've run 18's (winters)' 20's, 21's and 22's. 22's certainly a lot firmer ride.
Thanks
I think it's going to be 22's, sent a few people on Ebay messages so maybe by the end of the weekend

Re: 4.6 IS front valance fitted and rear bumper painted
Well I took the plunge this weekend and painted my rear valance.....just like ^^^this
The only dissapointment is that I got the titan silver from Halfords....it's shinier than the BMW titan.
Not massively but it is brighter. Perhaps the brightness will dull because masking it and spraying it was a right PITA, especially as I didn't have such a luxury as a ramp. On the positive side....I finally pulled out the gear shifter plastic bit that was worn. That too got a good rubbing down and sprayed titan
knackered though....2 cars vacced....now minus whole heaps of hay, clayed, polished, bumper and gear shift done
All I need now are some fake oval tips and it will look the dogs.

Ha Ha...it would look like yours....minus the exhausts...but with rear mudflaps...and a facelift version....but no side steps...but with 5 spoke 19s
The shifter was a piece of cake though...apart from the amount of (perhaps pointless) effort to paint
Shifter all the way back
Flat screwdriver unpicked the button from round the front. Pushed under lower edge of button and,.......twist a bit and out it came
Insert slides vertically up...well with a gentle twist upward pressure (screw driver again with a bit of tape to mask sharp edge) from the base of the stem.
Found a touch up pen that when blobbed with a lump of blu tack sits inside the insert curved bit
It would fall over still so a quick clamp G clamp wrapped in newspaper grabs the pen side on.
G Clamp in hand I can rotate it this way and that....and put it down to dry
Cellulose Thinners striped the old silver off (shocked) down to the black....no going back
V fine scuff and wipe again
Plastic Primer
Primer
Top coat dust
Clear...many times
Not sure how tough it will be but it looks ace. Sunshine helped and putting the trim back was easy....the button a little trickier but it went back and needed a firm push for it to go back in.
This is how it looked before painting

Re: 4.6 IS front valance fitted and rear bumper painted
Sorry if you have mentioned it in another thread but where did you pick up your front valance? Really keen to fit one to ny almost identical V8 (angel eye kit going on today!)
Thanks

It's a genuine valance that I picked up off eBay for a silly cheap price, I just kept checking, they do pop up from time to time

What angel eye kit did you get complete lights (aftermarket) or rings to retro fit into the original casings?

that looks really good
I don't think it would make much difference on my black x5 though.

I bought an aftermarket kit from a company called Car Mod Shop, strangely enough one of the 4no rings wasn't working in my kit so I am waiting for them to open after the new year to get them to send another out.
Had already split the lights before I realised so have left them apart and am using the wifes car, with any luck should have it sorted at the weekend as missing the V8 already, plus had to go wading in the 328 this morning as a lot of the roads are flooded around me.
In the meantime I will keep a lookout for a valance, there is a primed aftermarket one on ebay for £150 ish delivered but always a bit concerned about fit. Plus if there are savings to be had I am always keen!

Re: 4.6 IS front valance fitted and rear bumper painted
Have picked up an oem valance for the front (paid a bit more than 45 but worth I think) need to sand it back and paint it when it arrives. Did you cut holes in the existing bumper like others that have done it?

Yes, where the little tabs meet the bumper I cut little slits,
It worked really well
