New X53 'to be' owner, in Herts

Post by tyzer » Mon Dec 09, 2013 5:29 pm

Hello All,

Paid my deposit last week, hopefully picking up this week. A saphire black 3.0d sport 2005 55 plate with cream interior. Been looking for a few weeks but either seemed prices out of range or too far for a look. Having said that the car is up in Glasgow so the journey is going to be epic!

I have never bought a car without a test drive or never seeing it before but here is fingers crossed :'(

Currently have a 56 7 series, which i love but after buying a 5 series m sport for special lady we thought we needed some means of getting off the drive this winter, and I have loved the look of the X5 forever.

Anyway, this seems to be a very nice and informative forum so here goes....

Hi and welcome.

It sounds like your first trip is going to be a good test of the car, make sure you check every electrical item works before you take it away, just in case as it a long way back if there are any probs.

It certainly looks good is from a BMW dealer or an independant garage?

Depends upon how old it is and how it's been and is being treated.  Cold weather is a killer as the electrics are used more heavily.

Short journeys are also a killer and any battery more than 4-5 years old is going to be more likely to fail.

Bosch S4 or S5 is the frequently used replacement.
