Removing runflats !

I was told the other day by a ex BMW mechanic if you change from runflats to non runflats your insurance will be void because they are not a manufactured standard part for that vehicle. Can anyone shed any light on this  :help2:

A lot of insurance companies don't mind, ring them up and check first though, I did and they said as long as the same spec ie speed ,load rating and width are the same they didn't have a problem with it.( that was on my E60)
Some companies have said they won't even insure you if you fit winter tyres Stupid realy as there is less chance of you skidding into someone with them on.

Did it on my e92 335i and they (Churchill) said it made no difference at all.

The only thing I was told by BMW was that BMW Assist would charge me to recover the car if I had a puncture.

BMW have told me that my extended warranty will be affected if I change to non-RFT again because a non-standard part has been installed..  >:(

I changed my Continental runflats to Goodyear Eagle F1's and my insurers didn't care.

I don't see what concern it is of theirs anyway, what's next, looking at your brake pads?!

As long as the tyres are legal then I'd see them in court. However its worth checking your small print before you sign.

When I renewed my warranty they said it makes no difference to warranty

My insurance company said no difference as it is not a performance enhancement

I use it just as an example to show that most insurers seem to take a pragmatic approach to these type of issues as opposed to the "hysteria" created on internet message boards.

Perhaps they take a similar pragmatic view of runflats but as always, it's best to call and tell them.
