Which tablet??
Which tablet??
In the market for a tablet but which one to ho for?
Had a play with the apple air nice build bit more like my iphone 5 so am used to its functionality but not other brands as such.
At the moment I'm torn between the air and Samsung galaxy note both 10.1 but someone I spoke to says the Nexus 7 is the best android tablet in the current market.
Anyone has any of the above tablets willing to advise?

Re: Which tablet??
Hi, i am by no means a computer buff, but i have just been down this road looking for a tablet for the kids. They use my iPad all the time but the high price of Apple products got me looking elsewhere. If you are looking at a a Nexus 7, i would certainly consider an Asus memo pad HD 7.
Asus made the Nexus 7 for Google so its basically the same as the Nexus but with some small differences. Its cheaper and one of the reasons is that it has a plastic back, but if you choose the blue one this has much less impact. It does have a MicroSD card slot though so you can increase the memory with a card.
The best bit however is the price, after cash back (which is easy) its £119 in Currys/PC World which is in my opinion good value for money and you can physically go in and get hold of one which is helpful as i was surprised how small a 7" one is when used to an ipad.
I would advise you to to an internet search so that you can read the reviews yourself and check that all i have said is correct.
Either way please post and tell us what you end up with.
HTH.

Re: Which tablet??
Thanks for the reply, saw Asus advertised on tv but I'm still unsure if the 7" tablet is the right size for me.
Re: Which tablet??
avoid Samsung - I bought the 7" tab as trying to be different from the other half's ipad. Its useless and I always end up picking the ipad back up.
Re: Which tablet??
Ipad for me! We tried a Nexus 7 last year but it just wasnt in the same league as the ipad. If you are already used to the Apple IOS on your phone I would stick with it and go for an iPad.
Best thing to do is have a play on both in a store and see which one floats your boat!

Re: Which tablet??
I have a 32gb one. Its not the new "air" one, its the one before that. Ive bought the other half one of the new ones for Christmas though.
IMO its brilliant. Does everything I need it to do. Store photo's, browsing online, shopping online, the odd game etc.. Can't remember the last time I used my laptop.

Re: Which tablet??
I've upgraded to a 128GB Air and luv it. I need the capacity for carrying movies and photos. Much faster than before and having had an iPad before, it made sense to look along that route. I'm not bothered about the 4G capability as there is none in the area, 3G (when I need it) is fine.
The Air now also gets Apple's 'office' type software for free (previous years it's still chargeable), so you get Numbers, Pages, iMovie, Keynote as well as GarageBand and iPhoto for nowt.
I looked at the android type tabs earlier in the Autumn and although they are good, I was bothered about the security issues on the Google App Store. Apple aren't perfect here but I have never had a virus or Trojan from them.
The Air also connects with iTunes with no problems so I did not need another conversion to move things around. WiFi on the Air is better than the previous versions too.
A lot will depend upon your budget and how you want to use the tab, but for me it had to be the iPad.

Re: Which tablet??
Ive been apple through and through but just got fed up of their new models which were mere updates of the previous yrs model. Slightly different but I replaced my iphone with a Samsung note 3 and I dont know how I could live with out it now. I much prefer the Android platform to IOS. Agree with what Richard was saying about securtity but you can download various virus softwares.
The android platform is open ended meaning you dont just have to download Google play approved apps, I dont even pay for apps as I just download APK files so I get it all free as well as lot of home brew apps. I have much more freedom to do as I please than I could on an IOS operating system.
However Im just comparing operating systems, Ive never tried a samsung tablet, only my note 3 but based on my experience I would definitely be open to getting one.

Re: Which tablet??
Thanks for the inpurt Richard I'd had been waiting for you to chime in with as always knowlegable answers and opinions,I do like the feel of the Air for its solidity/build and since I am used to the IOS that might me sway towards the Air.
Imy, agree partly with what you've said and regards to the open source OS of the androids I don't feel that with the type and amount of infomation I would have on the tablet the security will be sufficient, maybe I'm just a bit careful?

Re: Which tablet??
I have had a crappy old andriod tablet, Nexus and 2 different iPads now. Clearly the cheap one is out of tje window but iPad is by far the best in my opinion. Design, apps and feel are all far superior. Went to Currys to look and feel the rest and all feel a lot cheaper with much poorer build quality.
I am not an Apple until I die man either have a Samsung S4 phone and Windows as well as a Mac Book.

Re: Which tablet??
Depends upon what you want to keep on it?
64GB will do most I would have thought. Some of the apps I have are over 1GB (the science and star chart ones) and HD movies (from my server) are between 800MB and 5GB.
Photos files are large too (I am a semi pro photographer too) and for now I'm resisting the MacBook Air as my Sony does the job for half the price and I have never used a Mac.
Because of that I went all the way up to the max with the ipad. I'm down to my last 50GB already.....

Re: Which tablet??
Confused myself
What about the Nexus 7 2013? The only comparable one I've seen to date is the Ipad mini retina because the outgoing Ipad mini seems to be poorer specced to the Nexus 7 2013?
It's a big leap to a retina (which is nice) in cost unless ayone knows where you can get one for £200?
