Thinking of buying X5 40D
Re: Thinking of buying X5 40D
That looks a beautiful car, I have just been looking at the finance calculator, after putting a hefty deposit down and part exchanging your present pride and joy, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night with that much debt on a car. They depreciate faster than you can pay for them. I'm old school though and haven't had a mortgage for over 10 years so got out of the habit of finance etc.
Maybe that's why I only drive a Golf these days paid cash for it though >:D

Ahh yeah, but with a big tank it will last longer than a standard car would with alot smaller tank.
I think the petrol pump fiddled you there Leo so you think you are getting more for your money
in a word no, a thirsty car has a bigger tank so the range is still acceptable.

Yeah i love it too.
The finance is rather steep tbh but it is actually cheaper than a NatWest loan.
I see you live in Bury ? Im in Rochdale
When did you buy your golf if you don't mind me asking ?

Re: Thinking of buying X5 40D
Hi, I wasn't looking for a golf when we set out, I had it in my head that a Mazda 6 would be the suitable car, an estate, as I'm into cycling now since I realised how crap I was at golf.
We looked at a few on a Sunday, finally ending up in Leeds. I had lost the will to live by 4 o'clock and had driven a few Japanese cars , as well as a ford focus, which I thought was in limp mode but turned out to be the general power output of a Ford Zetec. At the end of the day I stood back and tripped over a 2010 VW gold GT TDI with the DSG box. Took it for a test drive, within 1/2 mile I was sold. I won't look at autotrader i case I was ripped off, but I like the way it drives, and the 50+ mpg is nice too I only got 7k for my 55 plate x5 but it was a good car for me and in the grand scale of things 4k depreciation in 2 years is good.
I've must be getting old at 50, because I'm looking for more efficient and comfortable, as well as practical cars now. ( somebody shoot me! )
My car needs are only as a weekend run around, as I drive my firms van all week , 30k business miles as I'm a service engineer.

Re: Thinking of buying X5 40D
Oh right, Glad you like it, they are brilliant cars
My son had one, a 2010 White Golf GT 140 tdi 3dr manual and it was a great car, he partexd it for a scirocco at York so i was thinking it was the one you bought but yours is DSG,so just thought i would ask.
I like the Golf very much i would have one but they aren't quite big enough for me really.

Horses for courses. 99% of the time I'm riding solo, so no need for a large car. I've just put a set of winter tyres on the van, so will be able to get out and about if the weather turns bad, plus the wife's just swapped her A4 Cab for aTT Quattro so we should be sorted for the winter.
We have 2 kids but they are 22 and 20 so don't need a family Taxi anymore
The lads got a 59 plate 1 series, and the daughters got a 10 plate fiesta, ( when I was their age I had some piece of junk that I bought out of the breakers yard, but don't get me going!!!!!!
I'm always accused of saying " in my day " so I will shut up now. :-[

Cos I've got better things to do than refuel the car twice as many times as I already do - like post on here. )
I also like to see how many miles I can get from a full tank. My record is 620.
Impressive, I tend to fill up once I'm down to the last quarter of a tank. The best return I've had is 34.24 with a projected range of 640 miles. There is no way I would have chanced it though.

I brought it from BMW about 6 weeks ago + still under manufacturers warranty so if I am honest the BMW approved piece is insignificant. P/X and finance, agreed easier at the dealer. I might just sell it back to them, fear what they would give me for it looking at the profit they made on my 335i that I P/X'd for the X5.

Ahh right, I do trust it but i would prefer a white one aswell tbh, Why are you selling it may i ask ?
Re: Thinking of buying X5 40D
Wife hates it, too big apparently! She thought she'd adjust to the size of it, but she seems to avoid driving it full stop.
