A Short Stay in Gloucester.

I will be staying in and around Gloucester for a few weeks in January whilst on a course.  Plenty of time off with little to do, so any suggestions for things to do while in the area will be gratefully received.

Unfortunately not.  This is the last hurdle I need to jump over to satisfy the CAA that I can fly anything.  Although I was previously qualified and have lots of experience flying in cloud, I have had to sit 15 exams and then do a three week flying course as I haven't done the flying in cloud for a few years.  The cost, £20k.  I just hope its worth it in the end.

Tell me about it.  That gets me ten hours in the simulator, five hours in a real aircraft and then one and a half hours for the check ride.  Fail the check ride and it's another £3k to do it again!  That said, with this in the pocket, I will be able to go for jobs that pay very well.

Cheltenham is very close to Gloucester and is very nice.  Also, the Cotswolds are easily within 30 minutes drive: Broadway is lovely (still have a house a couple of miles from there), Stanton is amazing: disregard the TV antennas and you could be in the 18th century.  Further South there are places like Painswick and Tetbury.  Oxford is about an hour and worth a drive.
Not the best time of year for sightseeing though!

Although I should have been more specific. I'm looking for eating houses, decent pubs etc.  I'm not really one for sightseeing.

Tetbury is lovely and is a beautiful quaint little place. I'm here now as I have relatives.  There is also the national arboretum as well as Kemble airbase.  My cousins a pilot and I know it's not cheap.  He flys a Challenger for a millionaire.  Nice if you can get it as he waits around at home quite a bit but when they call him he goes to some fabulous places like Cuba etc

I'm a bit out of date now but try:
The Air Balloon, at Birdlip.
Nice old country boozer with good reputation for food, though recent reviews are a little mixed.  Certainly used to have good beer as well...
