Installing BMW 1.4.0 on a Windows 7 64 bit home

After purchasing a lead and software on ebay here -

- which arrived just over a week later, ahead of my expectations, I went about installing the software on my Dell laptop running W7 64bit home edition.  I had established beforehand that 64bit operating systems were not the easiest to install on so did a fair bit reading up before hand.  I installed the software without the lead in, but alas this did not work.  I then tried three different drivers before looking at the VM route (which is a bit more involved) before searching again and ultimately finding the drivers that finally worked.  These were V2.08.14 FTDIChip CDM drivers verified by Microsoft on 04/12/2011.  Not the latest by a long shot, but worked and are verified by MS so no warning messages on install.  They can be downloaded here -

I hope this helps others with Windows 7 64bit O.S.
