Some more questions, 1 of my parking sensors is faulty but they all have the ticking noise so unsure which one it is, I have read on here that the scanner 1.4.0 would find this, is it true that this scanner software only works on Xp etc. I only have windows 8 on my laptop. I have also heard of inpa but assume this is similar software to scanner 1.4.0, Does any software work on windows 8?
Oh, and was reading lots of threads about the webasto aux heater, when I unlock my car I hear it come on for a small period of time or also when I lock it, is this normal? (mine is 2005 3.0d Sport)
I may wait until the better weather comes in to remove the front bumper for the sensors. Does everybody buy them from main dealers or are the ones on ebay ok?
Thanks

Re: Some more questions
Can only say that INPA works (limited) on Win7..
Better on XP.
INPA and Scanner 1.4 are not very comparable though..
INPA appears to have better diagnostics, Scanner for activating bits..(Although NCS Expert is better at that but riskier if you don't know what you are doing!!)
My heater only comes on when you turn ignition on (2003 3.0d) (other than on the Timer but then I have Aux Heat enabled on mine) but not sure if that is something different on the FL 2005?
Sensors..
You pay your money and take your risk...
I have had 4 off E-bay and all worked OK, although have heard of some that didn't..
Make sure you have the correct part number (get it off RealOEM.com) as i believe there were 2 different sensors used for the middle and ends!!
Scanner1.4 will check the sensors but may not give you full info on them (Cant say as never used it!!)
INPA and NavCoder will show the actual distances measured by the sensors so you can tell what they are all doing.
Navcoder is a free download on the net, and has some designs for a simple interface in the help files
Having said that the PDC bit of NavCoder is for full version of the software so you need to get it registered.
I know on the 2003 E53, if you are careful in how you do it, you can leave the bumper on and remove them from the front..

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Re: Some more questions
I've just installed BMW Scanner on my dell lappy running Windows 7 64bit home.
After a bit of searching around and a few failed attempts with other drivers, I eventually found the required here -
http://freecache32-free.uloz.to/Ps;Hs;f ... e&redirs=1
They are V2.08.14 and Windows verified, so worked with no warnings.
Edited to add - this was the unit I bought on ebay. It was shipped very quickly and so far is working without issue. I now have enabled visual & acoustic alarm notifications which was very easy
