X6 40d what are the best options?

So the late 2011 X6 40d that I put a deposit on before going offshore has turned out to be a late 2010 car.

This isn't particularly a problem but I was paying a decent price for the 2011 that would be a pretty high price for a 2010. I'm going to the dealer on tuesday (when i get off the rig) to see the car anyway, but this has really pissed me off. They've agreed not to hold me to the sale.

So I'm looking around again. I live near Aberdeen but am willing to travel to get a good car.

On the Options, is the media pack the better speakers or is that in a different pack?
The dynamic pack, how much of a difference does it make?

Do they all come with bluetooth and ipod plugs?

Do you need media pack to get a reversing camera?

So far I've narrowed it down to 40d with media, heated seats and 20" wheels. Tinted glass would be nice.

What would you class as must have options?

The car model year may well not be the same as the registration year.  40d builds started in April 2010 and because the 35d was built up to then, are MY2011.  The Dealer may well be referring to it by model year not registration year.  BMW do that with most of their cars.

Better speakers are a separate item called either Professional or Individual.  I have pro and it's good enough.

Not sure what the dynamic pack contains, but I have it.  You can't get the adaptive drive on the 40d for some reason - or not for that year.  The 35d had it as an option though.  You don't get air suspension with the dynamic pack, but you get sports suspension and an anthracite headlining and other bits I can't remember.  Air susp (rear only) was a separate cost option.

Bluetooth and media plugs again needs Bluetooth prep and Media pack with pro nav.

Cameras were also a separate option.  If you can, go for one with Top Down cameras as this makes parking easier - you get a reversing camera, front wing cameras looking sideways and one under each mirror looking down.

If funds permit then make sure you have Pro Nav, Smartphone Integration, the HUD, rear window blinds.  CD/DVD multi-changers are optional but you get a single slot in the dash anyway.

When did the facelift come in, are 40d are facelift cars?

I am finding the spec thing to be a bit of a minefield! more research required.

The official facelifted version - the E71 LCI - came in last year.

The 40d replaced the 35d, and added the CIC iDrive and 8-speed gearbox.  The LCI version brought in a lot of new trim, options, updates etc across the whole range, and the arrival of the M50d.

The spec is a bit of a minefield.  I still have my 2010 catalogue and if it helps I'll see what I can find.  The changes in 2011 (MY2012) were mainly connected with the BMW Apps options (SA6NF) arriving.  They cannot be retrofitted easily.

My 2p worth:
Heated seats in the rear - family would rebel without these.
Heated steering wheel - I use it a lot.
Pano roof - not so much for opening but great for the extra light in the cabin.
Comfort seats - noticeably better than standard IMHO.

I love all the other tech toys as well but the above makes a difference (almost) all the time, every drive.
Given a choice and more cash I'd have added head up display

Ok, my turn.  Heated seats all round.  Comfort seats are great, soft close doors really seem pointless to me.  Active headlights, especially if you travel a lot in until areas.  HUD, more practical than you may expect.  Heated steering wheel, auto main beam.  Roof rails if you intend to use a roof rack.  The cameras coming in three options.  One, straight revers camera, two, top view adds cameras in the wing mirrors to aid parking and three, is side camera that adds cameras to the side of the front bumper to aid pulling out when it's hard to see down the street.
Comfort access is another useful option, this allows you to leave the keys in your pocket when locking/unlocking the car as well as starting the car.  Pro media includes Bluetooth and very few seemed to be specced without out this option.

Am I right in thinking that the HUD won't work with polarising sunglasses? I currently have (due to getting migraines in bright light and forgetting the bloody things) 3 pairs of polarised ray-bans!

There are not many well optioned cars near me judging by the approved used cars. There are quite a few in London so i may have a 1300 mile round trip to do when I get back.

Ah well, at east you get to know the car.

HUD works fine with polarising sunglasses.  It's a simple projector system onto a specially shaped windscreen.

Peter T - No pano roof on X6, only a standard roof.  Too much curve.

Comfort Seats are very nice too...I have them.

Believe me when you have had soft close doors you can't do without. A nice trick but luxury item.

I have the soft close and find it strange that when you close the door correctly (as tends to happen 99% of the time) that they move out and then in a mil or two to confirm you have closed the door.  The ten year old daughter found them amusing at first and liked to close the door softly just to see it close it's self the rest of the way.  Well that lasted all of two days.

Now saying that, don't dismiss a car because it has the soft close but like wise, I wouldn't pay to have it fitted to a car.

We had to get a new nav disk for the V8V, AM dealer told us to go to a Volvo dealer - just brilliant!!!

As a person who nearly bought my brother in laws X6 on his he had the HUD, good but can't say you didn't see the speed you were doing, leather dash top which was nice but a £1500 option, but only 4 seats though, soft close doors and BMW rear DVD upgraded sound system, and sunroof, heated seats all round.

From a buyers perspective what sold the car to me was
    the engine and gearbox were so smooth and it felt a bit like a V8, and I can only imagine that the later 40d     
    with the 8 speed box will be even better.
    The  HuD and the rear DVD , good for kids, And heated rear seats as well as the fronts , the soft close doors
    was ok but I wouldn't pay much extra for it.

Iirc his car had about 8k worth of extras and even if you don't use them all when it comes to resale your car may be worth a bit more but it definitely makes it easier to sell.

I vaguely understand the HUD on an M car where you get the rev counter etc and partly like the nav but I wouldn't buy it unless std, like on the M5 etc.

Dad had it on an Rs6 he had last weekend and loved it.

I would suggest looking to get as many options as possible within your price range as they may not be everything you need but will make the car more desirable when you come to sell it.
