F15 Price impact on E70
F15 Price impact on E70
Hi guys,
Thinking of upgrading my 2007 X5 to a 2010+ Xdrive40d, but with the release of the F15 X5 next month is it a bad time to buy? Have been looking at a few examples and they seem to range from £33k for 2010 models with decent spec and 2011 ones around £35k.
Will the new model have a significant bearing on residuals on 1-3 year old E70s?
Thanks

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
The F15 is so far away from £33k that I can't see it causing additional depreciation on the E70. It's such a minger that I can only see it increasing interest in the E70!

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
Hi,
I don't think it will impact the E70 at all. The new one is a " minger " and I bot a new E70 in april because of that. The dealer gave me a hefty discount too for an individual model, so even if it does have an adverse impact it should't hit me too hard.
At the end of the day these are desireable vehicles and think there will always be demand. I havent seen the full spec of the new one, but I don't think there is any great leap in technology/advancement on the new one from the old one, so looks is the main difference I think.
I would say now would be a good time to buy one as the dealers will want to clear stock ready for the new one.
Regards,
Nat.

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
It's a question frequently asked on many forums when a new model of a specific car is coming out. I've been in similar situations on a few cars now (having a 1-3 year old model when the new one is released) and if anything I have noticed the used market becoming stronger.
What you will find is that 3-4 months before the new model is launched there will be a flood of cars come up for sale but once these are all sold the prices firm up.
e.g. A new X5 40d in M Sport trim and a good spec will be circa £65k and a 2 year old one around £36-38k it's a different market at a different price bracket with a different customer base
If you like the current X5 don't let the launch of the new one put you off. The biggest drawback of the new X5 is that it will be easily mistaken for an X3 :excl: personally I hate it and with the launch of the RRS and smaller Porsche Macan there won't be any buzz in the market for the new X5 IMHO.

Thanks for all your replies guys, I will see what my local dealer has in the way of unregistered vehicles.
Re: F15 Price impact on E70
Can't agree more that the new F15 is not as good to look at as the E70. That's why I ordered an E70 just before the deadline date. (Collected from the dealer on the 10th June this year) The only significant improvement I had read about is the adaptive suspension that will be fitted to all models as standard, rather than being an expensive option, but then again it looks like they have just included it the basic price. This will certainly improve the ride quality of the Msport version when you are driving on very bad B roads, as it can be a bit harsh on 20" rims with run flats.

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
Minger or not, IMO it won't affect the residuals of your E70 until they really start to become readily available on the used market, by that I don't mean the handful with <5k miles that will invariably be out there priced at almost the same price as new.
I'd say it's going to be 18-24 months before there will be any real noticeable effect. After this time, non-LCI cars will be the first to suffer with later LCI models holding a little longer.
As for the styling of the F15, questionable... My guess is it will grow on us all, most BMW's do! I used to hate the 1 series, thought the E60 5 series was a dogs dinner and I still hate the look of all X3's.

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
I agree
E60 = dame edna everidge ( massive minger )
1 sries =ugly
7 =series not much better
X3 = the worst looking 4x4 out there
New X5 = not far behind the X3

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
Bmw make ugly cars for a reason
Look at the 1st e60 that came out
Everyone talked about them being ugly it was every where
Then sold loads as fleet cars
We all saw more and more of them on the roads and over night they don't look to bad and they grow on you
Now looking back at the e60 it's not a back at the e60 it's not a bad looking car and we will say the same thing about the F series range in a few months time

Re: F15 Price impact on E70
Familiarity makes a massive difference as to how we perceive cars .......... also very common for owners of the existing model to hate the new one and then 3 years down the line they are driving one.
Re: F15 Price impact on E70
These last couple of comments are fair enough.
I'd made a comment to the wife about not liking the new X5 look as much as ours and she replied 'you'll be won over and driving one within 3 years!'
She knows me well after 8 BMWs over nearly 15 years.
