Hi
I steam cleaned the engine bay yesterday as it was all covered in crap. the silver engine cover was totally black and absolutely everything was covered in like a sooty stuff. Opened bonnet today and there's small amounts of it about on the engine cover. Also not sure if this is connected but when accelerating I get a whistle sound, not the turbo whine, I can hear that clearly. This is more like a person whistling and it's more apparent when towing
Any ideas?
Thanks
Shaun

Sooty build up
Re: Sooty build up
Any hoses leaking? Which side of the engine is worse?
Any smell of burnt fuel, or sign of exhaust fumes under the bonnet?
The engine cover can be removed in a few minutes and that will allow you to see much more and might point you at the culprit.
The bolts marked in yellow will allow you to get the front section off - this is a facelifted bay.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Sooty build up
With the engine running there is a bit of a smell of burnt fuel. Could the buildup and whistling be linked? I will check for leaking hoses. It smokes a bit when I boot it aswell if that makes a difference.
Re: Sooty build up
Smoking on application of heavy throttle is normal.

That's a relief then. Thanks for the pic, I will have that off later on and have a look about
