DSC error

Post by Frontman » Sun Nov 03, 2013 8:30 pm

Had the X5 plugged in at a local BMW specialist, ABS and brake warning have been on the dash for ages, brakes and sensors have been replaced but warning lights are still on.
After erasing errors the lights are still on and error message reads:

Dynamic stability control error
No message from steering angle control unit.

Does anyone know where the unit in question is and has anyone had dealings with this error ?

Cheers

Steering angle sensor is located on the rack itself. To replace is a little time consuming.

I had this issue - supplied and fitted by local Indy for around £150-£200 as I recall (sorry that's a bit vague)

Even then they still had the DSC light on and it took quite some time with them tinkering with a couple of different systems to clear out the error (again sorry that that is a bit vague).

I ha this error popping up every so often.  I turned out to be a split air intake hose and dirty idle control valve.    If the computer cannot calculate the engine output then it does not communicate with the gearbox in a manner it can understand, so thows up the ABS lights as it does not know how much power to put across the wheels.    So I didn't need the angle sensor that I thought.  Now runs absolutely fine with no errors.    if I had all the work done that the indy garages said I might need then I would be short of a couple of grand (ICV, engine breathers, intake rubber, steering sensor, gearbox final drive).  Ended costing me £12 for the intake rubber and 2 hours.    Its not always what you think.    If you have LPG then again it might be that not supplying enough or too much gas , or an intake leak.
