winters refitted with spacers

Post by Ashway » Sun Nov 17, 2013 9:28 am

I put my winter wheels on yesterday but this year I've added H&R spacers. They don't look as lost in the arches, rears especially. The Wintrac extremes are much more forgiving than the oem Bridgestone runflats.

If i get chance today I'll post up some pictures

I just fitted mine yesterday and went from 20" to 18" .  Not fitted spacers yet but defo need.  I was thinking 40mm each side for rear only .  What did you go for? My winters are only 255 wide instead of 315 I think

Interested in hearing what size of spacers you got, cost and where you got them from. This is something I could do with doing as my 19" winters disappear into the arches. did you just do the rears?

Any tips on the wheel changing, did you do it yourself? I wrecked my back last time so am dreading the process again.

I thought wheel changing was nice and easy - trolley jack and one axle stand as backup when the wheel was off.  Just have to do it all again when I decide to buy and fit spacers.

I went with H&R spacers from Venom motorsport, shopped around allover and they were cheapest. (no affiliation and good service)

http://www.venommotorsport.com/

went with 60mm rear and 40mm front, as this was the nearest to OEM set up using the offset calculator below
http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator

easy to compare original wheels and then the winters, the spacer required is the difference as indicated

Wheel changing is easy yes but its the weight of the 20" wheels that kills me, I must be a weak one.

What did you pay for the spacers?

no spacers on the M3, they're the OEM square set up for winters

X5 spacers are £67 and £79 +VAT for the 40mm and 60mm respectively, also needed to get longer wheel bolts for the front, sourced them from ebay

Don't know yet, I only got in April when the 0% deals were on so not had it when conditions are bad.  I had a 335i a few years ago and that was awful, though surprisingly not as bad as the front wheel drive A5 I had.

I'll let you know, did about 50 miles in it today just to scrub the tyres in a little as they were still shiny with release agent. Ride a lot more forgiving but too early to comment on handling as it was mainly motorway in a straight line

Hi Ashway
I also got a 30D MSport like yours. Just changed to winter: 8,5x18ET37 and 255/50X19. Specially in the rear they are lost in the arches. Thinking of spacers as well from HR. May I ask what size summer wheels you have? Mine is the 10x19 & 285/45x19 set up. Can see you go with 60mm spacers rear, can not really judge by the pic but do they follow the summer wheels more or less? I was thinking of 30/40mm but now in doubt based on your pic

Thanks
JensM
