MID pixel repair carried out, chuffed with results

Post by dpbayly » Sat Nov 16, 2013 8:11 pm

After breaking my LCD on my MID last week when trying to improve my display after over the course of a week it went from looking acceptable to looking like this:

I stripped it down to its component parts:

Then Knocked the LCD display off the table and onto the ceramic tile floor where if smashed in to a million bits......

So picked up a new LCD and and ribbon off Ebay and set at it again this time being careful not to be a klutz and this time it was a success with great results....

Look like new:

A comparison.....

Outstanding result! - any chance you could do a 'how to' to help others with the same problem?

I did't take any Pics or the process but I used these vids to remove and to dismantle the MID:

There's a third vid but I didn't use it

Here's is everything needed to carryout the repair:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-X5-E53-E3 ... 4acb95c5ff

The only other thing needed is a soldering iron that takes a 5mm end to use the T-tip in.

The T-tip is needed to bond the ribbon to the board and the LCD display unlike the you tube vid these ribbons require bonding like the OEM ribbons I opted this route over the easier sticker type as im sure there was a reason they didn't cut corners when they where put together in my case 12yrs ago,

The T-tip is easy to use once you position the ribbon you just hold the T-tip down on the ribbon against the board for 5 secs where it melts the adhesive and bonds it to the board same with the LCD, it is simple just take your time.
