I'm now officially part of the x5 club
Went to see a 2004 4.4 today. Immaculate throughout and have heard lots of good reports about the dealer so put a deposit down on the spot! A few niggles with it. Pads need doing, PDC not working and a lots of hesitation low down in the rev range. All promised to be sorted by dealer before collection. Think hesitation could have been cos it's been sat for a while + it had barely any fuel in it so not sure if these have a warning misfire like audis do? Either way, will only take it away on Friday if it's perfect so no worries on my part!

Yes only take it away when your 100% happy with it little niggles can turn into big money mate.

Hi and welcome to the forum, and as Reusch says make sure your 100% happy if not if you do take it get it in writing what is due to be fixed and who is paying and signed and dated so no confusion by anyone, or don't take it until fixed.
I walked away from a 4.8 with faults and lost a deposit but it could have been worse and probably would have been in hindsight, but I now have a good 4.4 and at less money with the niggles all sorted.
It is Important to test every electrical item windows heated seats etc and also press the check button on the instrument display as it will highlight issues such as suspension inactive etc and if faults before you commit to taking it.
If all ok they are nice cars but costly if they go wrong and I guess that's why they were 40-60k originally.

Re: I'm now officially part of the x5 club
Oh absolutely! I made it very clear and had put in writing all the faults and a guarantee that they would be resolved before I handed over the rest of the money. Ultimately there's also 3 (6, really) months warranty on it too, so I was happy to do the deal.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club.

Yes it's the same me.

Re: I'm now officially part of the x5 club
Low rev lumpiness is often coil packs on the way out, I had 4 replaced under BMW approved warranty for just this reason.
As everyone says get it 100 percent before paying the balance and don't rely on the warranty to sort as 3rd party warranties often have a pre existing fault or 30 day lockout clause so you end up relying on dealer goodwill which is often rare as Unicorns driving UFO's
Good luck

Noted. I agreed with him that I wouldn't be taking it unless it was sorted
