WANTED - E53 Self Leveling Suspension Module - Help! :)

Post by james8whippy » Wed Nov 13, 2013 9:53 am

I'm having problems with mine at the moment and had the bags & pump replaced but car is still rising itself up completely. The garage can't find any error codes and they think there maybe corrosion on the module as it sits down below in the battery tray. They are stripping the car down at the moment to see if they can see any corrosion.

Anyone have an old module lying around or know of any going anywhere?

Thanks!
James

If it's rising up in the air on its own it's most likely one of the two height sensors giving a corrupt signal.

Check the mounting arms very closely and the block connectors for water ingress

Cheers Stevo I thought exactly the same thing! When I mentioned it to the Indy BMW garage who have it at the moment they claimed the sensors are fine and are reading correctly. Apparently one of the front sensor was seized and they manage to get it moving again. I didn't think the front sensors were related to the suspension on the 4.6 though as it only has rear self leveling suspension.

All 4 sensors are used to determine the exact ride height required for the rear in comparison to the fronts.

on my first e53 i had a suspension issue and the level sensor had siezed but looked perfect on the outside as it must have snapped off inside or something, as soon as the sensor was disconected and the arm removed you could tell there was no resistance at all. altho this did throw an error code for rear drivers side sensor, but the first visual inspection it looked fine

I still think it could be a sensor thats giving the wrong reading but the "Specialists" seem to think its not.

I phoned my local stealer to see how much a Electronic height module and I was quite surprised as it only worked out £101 for new module I was expecting £££'s.

I might just change the sensors anyway if they are prone to fail I can't imagine them being huge amounts....

Hi Martin,

Thank you for the offer typically they ordered me a new module at £100 on last Friday (a day before your post) and can't refund electrical items apparently! Just my luck!

Cheers

That's not a bad idea Graeme I would probably do if it wasn't such a pain to get to on my car. The module is buried under the LPG tank :(
