Sonos

Post by pvr » Tue Nov 12, 2013 9:26 pm

Bought myself an early Christmas present by kitting the place out with all Sonos products. I must say it is great fun.

Got a couple of Connects to join the amplifiers, and a couple of Play 3 and Play 1 units for some of the other rooms. Also subscribed to Spotify as it allows different songs to be played at the same time from a single account.

The control via the iPhone, laptop and iPad is great as well with joining units to generate "groups" of units.

Very recommended I would say.

Had the connect for a while and got a couple of Play 5's last Christmas. Really well thought out pieces of kit. Even my wife likes them and to say she hates my 'toys' would be an understatement.

Spotify is amazing. Ended up having to get a second spotify account for my eldest once she realised what it could do :) Even my Onkyo AV amp has spotify built in. The ability to sync offline is great as I use that to put music on my iphone.

Got to work out that off line bit yet as that would be nice to take on my iPhone when I am travelling.

Can it cope with video streaming, or is it audio only?

One of my mates has the wired version and loves it.

I've often wondered about the Sonos, or whether to go for a Crestron in my next place.

At the moment I have several Zeppelin Air docks which i can zone. You can add an apple airport express to use existing amplifiers, but it wont control them obviously.

I have had Sonos throughout my house now for more than 4 years and it is brilliant. Around 6 months ago I added the Play Bar to the Kitchen and it just fills the room with crisp sound. Very very happy with Sonos as a whole system and would recommend anyone who is considering this wireless solution to go for it!

Richard, Sonos is only Audio.

Hey Turks, long time no hear :) I am in your name sake country at the moment  :))

What sold the system to me, was that my wife could control the whole lot as well from her phone. Previous attempts to audio automation with the Apple products have just not been successful as it was too complicated. Airplay was also not that reliable whilst the Sonos just seems to be solid.

I like the connection to existing HIFI systems as well so you don't lose the existing setup.

I have the Sonos system too. I wanted multi room hifi when we moved house and this was the best solution.

I love it. The napster subscription is worth the money, I use shazam on the Iphone to identify songs on the radio or on adverts then I can find them on napster.

Now looking into the new smaller speakers to use outside for BBQs etc.
