1st years ownership.

Post by Jayx5 » Mon Nov 11, 2013 11:36 pm

Ive had my x5 for a year now and Ive done 3500 miles in it. Its now on 69k. So far Ive changed the oil, brake fluid,  spark plugs, rocker head gaskets, expansion tank, alternator and starter motor. At the moment its got a steering rack leak and a water leak .lucky for me my best mate is a mechanic with his own garage so he dosnt charge me much to fix it .I  insured it yesterday for £387 with the post office which was a bit of a surprise as last year was £650! So far im well impressed with it, the wife still likes it and the kids have plenty of room in the back. It still goes well for a 11 year old barge, I had a little play with a boy racer in his focus st the other night and he couldn't get past me on a dual carriageway.  His face was price less :))

More than a few drivers assume that because it's a 4WD it's going to be as slow as a Defender, and then get a surprise when we roar off over the horizon......., :D

On mine the power steering rack leak turned out to be the hose itself and both were replaced under warranty.  It was apparently a 'known' problem in 2006 when mine were changed for a later amended design.  Just in case yours is hose rather than rack.....

The problem was to do with the way the hose ends were made and covered a lot of model years.  BMW replaced mine with a revised design with new ends.
