On the lookout for an early e53...

Post by JohnnyRob » Thu Nov 07, 2013 10:33 pm

Limited budget of c£5k for a 3.0d or petrol lpg converted sport.

I've found a couple but the mileages didn't add up.  I can't believe people are still clocking cars now you can verify the MOT history mileage on line....

I *think* an lpg converted petrol might be our best bet.  Ideally I'd like black heated leather with sat nav.

If anyone has got similar for sale soon or knows of anything then please let me know.

Thanks
JR

I have just bought a 52 4.4 and converted to LPG so far so good, only completed 500 miles mind!
Do you want one converted ? Or is there room in the budget to convert it yourself?

Unfortunately c£5k is my budget all in.

What lpg set up did you get installed?

If your budget is limited to £5k, are you going to be able to cover costs like gearbox failures?  A £5k car is likely to be high mileage and therefore with increased risk of expensive failures?

Not trying to put you off at all, but these cars can bite back and more than a few have been hit with expensive (it is a luxury car) failures - especially when the cars have come from less honest dealers or private sales.

I'd be looking to purchase a warranty on top to cover gearbox failure (in particular) should this give up the ghost.

Of course I have budgeted for ongoing maintenance as you do with any vehicle.

Prior to purchasing our current LR freelander TD4 (which the X5 will replace) I owned an ML320 and various 4x4 before including Range Rovers / Discovery and Pajero so I am well aware of the ongoing cost of 4x4 ownership.  I've also owned various BMW (non 4x4) over the years...
