Bluetooth problems
Bluetooth problems
Hi, Ive been trawling through the topics on here and other forums about this and Im getting nowhere and need some help. Firstly i've just bought a 2004 (04) X5 3.0d sport. It has the speak button in the arm rest and ive located the ULF module in the boot. If I press the R/T button on steering wheel I get 'activate phone' on the dash but no matter what instructions I follow I cannot get into paring mode. I have disconnected the ULF module for 30 mins, I have taken the cradle apart to find the white plug disconnected inside, Refitted and secured that, found a blown fuse in boot, replaced that, briefly checked wiring in centre console, all looks ok. although I didn't get to look at the whole lot of wiring as I couldn't see it. Its doing my head in now, Any ideas......
Thanks in advance, Shaun

Re: Bluetooth problems
I had the same problem when trying to set mine up using the button in the armrest. I used the button on the steering wheel and it went into pairing mode no problem but the phone wouldn't pair so I followed advice from this forum and deleted all my text messages and it paired no bother.

Re: Bluetooth problems
Thanks for the replies. I've tried both the button in the centre and the steering wheel and still nothing.
I'm assuming it might not work with iphone 5s anyway but would like to at least try.
Thanks

Parrot !
The trouble with the E53 is the technology was developed 12 years ago, when smartphones would be considered the devils work.
I would invest in a parrot hands kit, I have one in the van and they work perfectly with up to 4 different users, the later ones allow music streaming too. I've seen pictures of a member on here that had it installed into the ash tray, so kept the OEM look.

Re: Bluetooth problems
Have you cleared down the existing pairings? It might be blocking you from setting up any new ones.
Depending upon the model year, it may be that the version of the ULF in the car is too 'early'. BMW made some bad calls between 2000 and 2005 with Bluetooth and stuck with very early protocols long after the phone manufacturers moved on.
There are a lot of ULF versions as a result, and the later ones are the best ones. As above, a Parrot might be a better option.

Re: Bluetooth problems
I have an issue and think il give up and go for a parrot. I can actually get mine paired and sync address book ok. I can even make the odd call through the speakers but after a few seconds it disconnects and need to use the phone again so pretty much unusable.

Re: Bluetooth problems
I might give it up as a bad job then. I'd av liked to keep it standard and use the steering wheel buttons but perhaps that's not gonna happen.

Re: Bluetooth problems
Most likely your only alternative if you want to stay OEM is to try to get the latest possible TCU, but I believe they are coded to the vehicle (especially if Telematics is included) which may mean you have to go to BMW.
Part number is: 84109236496
There were no less than seven GSM versions of the TCU in 2007 alone! That shows just how badly BMW got the integration of Bluetooth wrong.
A Parrot system is going to be both simpler and cheaper one suspects.

Re: Bluetooth problems
I am looking at a Parrot system with maybe a Brodit cradle,
Problem being where to fit a cradle which doesn't get in the way or look stupid.
Maybe the armrest or tray install would be better without a cradle

Re: Bluetooth problems
Just to update on this, I bought a BMW scanner and managed to get the Bluetooth into paring mode and paired up my iPhone 5s and I'm pleased to say its working faultlessly. Connects as soon as ignition is on, full phone book synced, calls are crystal clear, made a 20min call without a hitch, answer and end called with the button on steering wheel. I'm well pleased with it
Thanks
Shaun
