To service..or not to service?

Post by jaynana » Thu Oct 31, 2013 8:42 pm

last year this time i did a full service (oil change plus air and diesel filters changed), for peace of mind, since it was one year since i bought and this was my first service, although i had run only 7k miles since i bought.

now, the car has done about 8k miles since the last service, most of the service lights are still on, but its just over one year since the last service!

do i leave it till the lights indicate i should service (would be another year easily at the going rate..), or should i just do an oil service, given that its been an year since the last?

looking at the log book, the car has always been serviced annually, often at around 7 to 8k miles.. even with previous owners.

the 'clock' sign has come up so its due for a brake fluid change anyways..

If I were buying I'd want to see regular service intervals. HTH

Just do oil change and air filter no need to do fuel every year. Only be £80 if you get a ecp code on oil

Agreed, oil & filter and air filter if you think it needs it.  As long as you have decent oil in there you should be fine.  The fuel filter and pollen filter should be fine, though you could also do the latter.

BMW told me that mine did not need servicing every 12 months so if I wanted an oil change I would have to pay for it - that was on a 5-yr all inclusive deal.

The X6 is the same and only gets changed every two years regardless of low mileage (12k in 3 years).
