Best battery for E53

Post by Franknstein » Wed Oct 30, 2013 12:44 pm

Turned on my remote heating yesterday morning, and then when I came to the car it wouldn't start.
Also find that if if the screen is on and the doors are open for anymore than 5 minutes, then battery is flat also.
Took it to get battery tested and bloke told my wife it tested at 60% and apparently needs replacing when the figure is 50%... dont know what test this was.
At the moment it has a Halfords battery in there, looks a big one.

What gives? Battery is still within the threshold of not needing to be replaced but it seems to run flat so quick, almost like there is little to no reserve to run anything when car is not running, or it goes too flat to start?

Should I replace? How does a VARTA 100ah sound, seen them for £98 on ebay... 800CCA I think.

Most folks here buy one of the Bosch batteries, either the S4 or S5 series.  Decent warranty and good performance.  You need an 019 shaped version.  Approx 100A/h and a CCA of about 830A ISTR.

Eurocarparts are one supplier and the have a 50% sale in until 31/10 with no voucher codes needed, or so they're incessant emails keep telling me  :)

Cheaper by 10 quid on ebay through same supplier as it is on their website... strange.

Is that the one I need?

That's the beastie I fitted to my E53.. :)

When you change yours, remember to keep the vent pipe as you'll need to connect it to the new battery.

Slightly off topic but I thought the Webasto had a fail safe whereby if the battery wasn't up to it the Webasto would automatically not start up, thus you still have the ability to start the car.

BOSCH Silver all the way.
06 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC
05 Mercedes SL350

Could be because I fitted a maplin IR remote hack to the webasto system?
