MOT / Average Mileage...
Well after the obligatory MOT Failure on lack of handbrake......
Just adjusted to get it through but further work needed. New set of pads finally me thinks
I looked at the mileage history.....
Since my purchase i have averaged 6750 miles per year!!!
Obvious how, if you have been following my woes, but still quite surprising..
This is definitely going to end up as one of the lowest mileage 2003 X5's around at that rate!!
Saying that this is the first WHOLE year of ownership that it has managed to go from MOT to MOT and stay (pretty much) working!!!
>:D

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Re: MOT / Average Mileage...
Shhhhh!! It'll hear you and start plotting....
I've done less than 12k in the three years I've had the X6 so lord only knows how that will get on under it's 'End of Warranty' check 2moro. Then comes the MOT...... :'(

Re: MOT / Average Mileage...
i think other than your savage climate, you lack of use is probably contributing to your issues.
my 2005 3.0d has been an awesome car, i bought it used at 4.5 years and 63000 km, ive had it nearly four years and now have 185000 on it and its been super reliable.
yep done both outer front drive shaft boots, done the obligatory drivers door handle carrier, a bulb in the dash
and a bunch of cosmetic stuff to suit my ego, and thats it
i seriously think (and i guess it is a poor reflection) that these cars love being used and more importantly living in a mild climate

Re: MOT / Average Mileage...
i've had 2 1/2 years of ownership, relatively low mileage, relatively trouble-free so far.
of course i had the e53 'obligatory' door handle career issue, the bm54, steering wheel judder under high speed braking, etc.. lol... i learnt that i had to expect those soon after i bought - its a bmw after all and there were a certain set of things that would go wrong!
(there's another niggle right now though - might have to start a thread on that..)
i think in summary they're very complicated designs, not necessarily well tested to death for the level of engineering complexity so there are a multitude of failure points including some well known.
i only hope tomorrow i won't have a dreaded 'active suspension inactive' or a transmission failure or so on :crazy1:

Not really..
The biggest issue was having it off the road for 18 months due to a 3rd gearbox failure..
Since last MOT I have actually managed approx 10000 miles so a little below average..

Re: MOT / Average Mileage...
wow 18 mths for a gear box, what did they have to hand form it out of platinum ??
how can it even be possible to take that long?/

Re: MOT / Average Mileage...
Sailed through the MOT yesterday - as it damned well should at three years old and 12k. Smoke Emissions limit is 1.5 units of something, and it tested at 0.1. I always wondered why this one doesn't leave the soot trail that my old E53 did when booted.
Even passed the free end of warranty check.
Now just need to buy new Road Tax, renew Assist and get the extended warranty. I'm going to be broke... :console:

Re: MOT / Average Mileage...
Had my '05 3.0d since Feb '10 with 75k kms on the clock , now it's got 190k kms .
Had to have a new battery as soon as I bought it because it'd been standing undriven for
nearly 3 mths !!
Then later in the same year had to have new starter motor (Magnetti Marelli are sh**!!)
Since then , until Aug this year when I undertook a precautionary turbo change , it's been
very reliable and just had the usual dealer services with intermediate oil changes in between

did it all myself..
just had to do more research into the workings and failures to ensure i targetted the right bits....
however...............
