I got a warning sent to all staff regarding a nasty new breed of Ransomware that has just appeared called Cryptolocker. It seems to be coming via spoof phishing mails which shouldn't catch most on here, but it might catch the unwary.
It encrypts all your working files in a way that you cannot undo, and you may have to pay up to $300 to get your files back. Recovery other than paying is by restoring from a backup. This particular nasty can clobber all of your connected drives on NAS and Server devices too.... >:(
Details are here on a page from The Register (an IT news source):
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/10/18 ... ransmware/
If you do get infected then you're in trouble as there is currently no way to recover the encrypted files other than from a backup.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Sneaky little bastards!
Another reason I keep a backup on a portable HDD that's usually locked in a fire safe.
